[1] Stated “first published 1989”; but this is not the first edition, which was published exclusively by Nature & Health Books in Australia

[2] This book is divided into three parts, each devoted to one of the three Arabic writers (or group thereof, in the first case) mentioned in the title, and containing several chapters on that theme.

[3] The pagination appears unchanged from the original edition except for the expanded bibliography at the end, which has been brought up to date. But the author claims in his introduction to have made ‘certain modifications and corrections of the text’ too. Presumably this was done without lengthening any part of the book as a whole.

[4] This book is divided into two main parts, entitled “Medical Astrology” (pp. [3]-151) and “Guide to Nutrition” (pp. [153]-325), respectively. Howevre, the second part also includes significant astrological content, such as a chapter called “Medical Transits” and one called “Homoeopathy and Astrology”

[5] After the original printing of July, 1982 (5,000 copies), the second printing of December, 1983 (5,000 copies), and the Revised Edition of April, 1993 (2,000 copies), which is also introduced in the text as the Third Edition. Although dubbed the third revision, the present edition would appear in fact to be the fourth overall printing but the second distinct revision, unless the second printing of December, 1983 was also in fact a revision, though it is not stated thus

[6] A bound photocopy of an article suspected from available evidence of originally having been printed in an astrological magazine in the early 1930s. Internal references to a source published in September 1930 prove it is later than this

[7] A series of publications edited by A. J. Vanderjagt of the University of Groningen, together with an editorial board consisting a this time of M. Colish, J.I. Israel, J.D. North, H.A. Oberman, and R.H. Popkin

[8] A compendium of fifteen substantial studies by different scholars including David A. King, Julio Samsó, Charles Burnett, Owen Gingerich, Bernard R. Goldstein, and G. Federici Vescovini. Subjects include astronomical instruments; historical horoscopes; the division of time; medieval astronomy, cosmology and natural philosophy; and early modern philosophy and scholarship

[9] Apparently a paperback reprint of the edition originally published in 1967.

[10] A compendium consisting of a reprint of ‘Home Astrology’ (q. v., above) followed by a book of natal delineations by birthday, ‘What Your Birthday Stars Foretell’

[11] Presumed 1940s or late 1930s

[12] Title page indicates publication in 1936 but copyright date of 1956 on following page and preceding leaf suggest this edition is from 1956

[13] The author Marcel Proust died in 1922, which rules him out as a candidate, but the recipient might conceivably have been a relative or descendant of his.

[14] Over the publisher’s credit on both the front cover and the inner title page has been adhered a sticker reading ‘La Table d’Émeraude’

[15] The credits given at the start of this entry follow
