[1] After the first printing of November 1976

[2] After the first printing of November 1976

[3] Only one front cover but three matching rear covers are present. The thick rear card strengthener found on the complete copy listed above is missing, as are all the tabbed card dividers

[4] This was an auction lot from the author’s estate in the mid-late 2000s. Apparently these sheets were still waiting to be made up into properly bound copies at the time of her (?) death

[5] Stated as being a republication of her 1977 work., q.v. above

[6] However, a note at the start of the 1977 edition (q. v. below) acknowledges that owing to high demand, about 1500 copies of the pilot edition were ultimately produced, so it is less rare than the limitation notice would have one believe

[7] While it is not immediately clear whether this was a mistake, when checked against the reset 1977 edition (q. v. below) it becomes apparent that there is about a page of missing content in each place in this copy of the pilot edition. Whether only this copy of the pilot edition suffered a failure to print the versos of these two leaves, or whether all copies were affected, is not known

[8] Essentially a reset edition of the above, with the same contents, in modern type, with more lines per page (thus the overall page count is reduced), but not professionally printed, at least in this copy: each page bears the hallmarks of monochrome facsimile reproduction from a printed master on which some pages were numbered by hand. The typesetting and editing, however, are greatly improved, the individual entries being much clarified over the original edition, and the alphabetical order being rectified in places

[9] The text at the top of p. 11 is mid-sentence, whereas that at the foot of p. 9 is the end of a paragraph, clearly indicating a failure to print p. 10 in this copy. Niggemann’s production quality-control appears to have been seriously deficient, since this is not the only book of his in this collection that exhibits such a serious error: see also note relating to the first edition of his “Key to Uranian Astrology” above

[10] Line ending in ‘of Mercury and Saturn’. It is not apparent from this copy whether in fact there should be more lines beneath that

[10a] The copyright date of 1961 from the original edition is retained, but this appears to be a later edition. The comb binding was not normal for Niggemann in the 1960s, and both the title page and the following leaf, whereon the 500-copy limitation is declared, have the appearance of being of facsimile quality, whereas all later pages are laser-printed with what appears to be a computer font of the 1980s or 1990s, and coherently paginated, unlike the erratic typescript edition listed above, which is reasonably presumed earlier. It is ultimately unclear whether this was an official issue by Niggemann himself or an unauthorised later copy, but it does not appear to be the true 500-copy pilot edition in either case

[11] Niggemann acknowledges in his foreword the existence of the earlier English translation by Svehla of 1939, q. v., but refers to his own translation as an “enlarged and revised edition” with added interpretations for Pluto, Apollon, Admetos, Vulcanus and Poseidon, and with the order of the contents electively changed to reflect the “proper order of importance”

[12] This appears to be a misprint for what should be 138. There is no evidence of any missing content between pp. 137 and 139 (1), or between pp. 157 (2) and 159, the succeeding planetary combinations following in the correct sequence

[12a] Despite its title, this book includes references to the astrological great ages towards the end, and was authored by a well-known astrologer and astrological magazine editor

[12b] A series of publications collectively edited at this time by Stefan Heidemann, Gottfried Hagen, Andreas Kaplony, Rudi Matthee and Kristina L. Richardson

[12c] A collection of thirteen essays drawn from the proceedings of an international conference held at the University of Washington on 3-5 March, 2000. They are divided into four sections headed ‘Locating Magic’, ‘Prayer, Magic and Ritual’, ‘Dreams and Divination’ and ‘The Sun, the Moon and the Stars’. The latter section comprises four essays spanning pp. 169-239 inclusive that are of relevance to astrology and its place in religion, by scholars including Francesca Rochberg and Nicola Denzey

[12d] This work was originally supplied with a dust jacket, which had not been retained by the time that this copy was sold on to this library

[13] DNB records give 1938

[14] After the first of 1990

[15] Not including the unpaginated ones in the lengthy appendix

[16] A pagination error: should be 60

[17] Library records give 1937
