[1] Dated by British Library to 1898. The additional material spanning pp. 200-7, not present in the first edition shown above, is on Rules for Computing Primary Directions

[2] An exact facsimile reprint of the 1911 second edition, except for the removal of the original publisher credit and imprimatur. The A.F.A. reprint was further reprinted in 2006, that time with the addition of a dust jacket

[2a] Apparently a variant issue differing from the Thryza Escobar collection copy despite the identical bindings, in view of there being only one page of advertisements, and no scope in the binding for any leaf to have been removed

[2b] A print-on-demand publication; this copy printed 2021

[2c] However, it was already being advertised from March, 1935 in “American Astrology” magazine by D. G. Nelson, so this cannot be the first printing. It is reasonably presumed to have been printed in multiple small runs

[3] This publication was advertised and sold by Stuart. Its true author is unknown but is presumed to have been an associate of Stuart, if not Stuart himself under a pseudonym. Stuart’s address as given in the stamp is Sunnyside, Paddington Grove, West Hove, with the final line beyond this obscured by a later sticker of American mid-20th-century astrological and occult bookseller D. G. Nelson

[4] The printing is nonetheless evidently from the original sheets of the 1924 edition

[5] After the first printing of August, 1974 (3,000 copies) and the second printing of November, 1974 (5,000 copies)

[6] This edition is said to have been enlarged with “numerous additional cities” and  two provinces from the original edition thus of 1996, which itself was a major revision of a book by Penfield first published in 1976 under the different title “America: An Astrological Portrait of Its Cities and States”

[6a] A previous owner’s inked ownership date of 1730 shows that this must be the original printing of 1726, albeit without the full dated title page and other prefatory leaves

[7] A recent facsimile reprint of the original edition printed for J. Batley, at the Dove in Pater-noster-row, London, 1726, q. v. above, this reprint including the title page and the one main text leaf missing from the original printing in this collection

[8] This is a looseleaf photocopy of an extended article by the author that was serialised in the periodical he edited called ‘The Word’. The first eleven parts of the serialisation are present here, commencing with I, in Vol. 3 No. 1, April 1906, and concluding with XI, in Vol. 4 No. 5, February 1907.

[9] The third edition is dated 1980, and no further date is shown. This copy was purchased new in the mid-2000s and might be a later undeclared reprint, although it is also possible that it comes from old stock of the 1980 printing, warehoused at the AFA over many years
