[1] A bound photocopy-based reprint of the dissertation originally published 1987

[2] A series of publications directed by Antonio Panaino

[3] The core of this volume is a transliteration, transcription, and Italian translation of chapters V A and VI F of the Bundahishn, a ninth-century Zoroastrian text (pp. 66-80). The remainder is  introduction and commentary, including upon two other astrological sections in the Bundahishn (not reproduced here), V and V B. Appendices briefly discuss (pp. 137-162) several relevant texts by other authors, including two other zoroastrian texts, three classical texts, one Indian, three Arabic, and three grouped under the subheading “Byzantine and late medieval”.

[4] Seems an identical reprint of the above except for the fewer advertisements at the end

[5] A collection of ten essays by different scholars, including Charles Burnett, Laura Ackerman Smoller, Hilary M. Carey, Jean-Patrice Boudet, H. Darrel Rutkin, Darin Hayton, Monica Azzolini, Claudia Brosseder, and Ralley, with an introduction by Kassell

[6] The author is described in the preface as ‘one Sri Ramadayalu belonging to the Advaita Brahmin class[,] evidently a saivite’; and the age of the source text is indicated as being ‘the middle of the 19th century’. In common with other 1970s editions of translations by Sastri, the Sanskrit source text is integrally presented with its English translation throughout the book, making this an ideal scholarly reference edition for those able to read Sanskrit as well as English.

[7] The preface is dated 1943; and the original edition was published by V.B. Soobbiah of Bangalore in 1944, according to Worldcat library records. By 1976, Sastri was deceased, but the foreword to the second edition is provided by his presumed relative K. Subrahmanyan

[8] Said to have been thoroughly revised from the original edition of 1962, with many of the charts ‘reworked’ for accuracy

[9] This volume notably includes a transcript of a letter sent by C. G. Jung to the author in September 1947, detailing Jung’s then philosophical position on astrology

[9a] Expanded from the first edition of 1946, with subsequent editions having been published in 1950 (82 pages), and 1956 (116 pages). See below for the following fifth edition

[10] After the fourth edition of 1958, q. v. above. The following sixth edition of 1972 appears according to library records to have been reduced to 138 pages, for reasons unknown

[11] The first edition is dated to 1940, and the sixth is said to have been published ‘four years ago’, i.e. 1957 or 1956

[11a] This edition is said by Raman himself to have been ‘thoroughly revised and improved’ although there is no change in page count from the previous one

[11b] The first edition is dated to 1938, with the preface to it, dated February 1938, retained. The preface to the third edition suggests that the second dates to within two years before it, so is presumed to have been published in 1941

[13] The seventh edition is stated ‘thoroughly revised’; the preface to the first edition, dated 1941, is retained within. The earliest edition recorded in Worldcat is the fifth of 1953, with an unspecified edition of 1971 (presumed the sixth) also listed, as well as an eighth edition of 1981

[14b] There is no copyright page or date on the title page, but the preface is dated October 1935 and this is generally accepted as correct for this first edition; although on the title page, the author makes reference to some works of his that have not yet been published by this stage, the evidence suggests he had already been working on them and his plans to publish them were therefore underway. One of the works to which he lays claim, ‘A Text-Book of Hindu Astrology’, would never appear under that name, becoming instead ‘Hindu Predictive Astrology’ when eventually published in 1938

[19] According to the translator, the original version of this treatise on horary astrology was composed in 1567. It is believed by some authorities to have formed the 3rd and final division of Neelakanta’s work Tojaka Neelakanteeya

[20] The translator’s introduction is signed August 1969

[21] The preface to the first edition is retained, dated July, 1947

The preface to the first edition, retained here, is dated 1938. Library records show the first edition to have comprised 80 pages, and the seventh (of 1961) 101 pages.

[24a] Tables said to be corrected from the original edition of April 1953

[25] This work is billed as a translation of some of Periyar’s speeches. The paper label to the spine describes it as an ‘Indian critique of [Astrology]’
