[1] A suspected American compilation and reprint, almost certainly unauthorised, of two of Sepharial’s pamphlet-length works originally published by Foulsham, together with three others by different authors on  other divinatory subjects, two of which were also originally published by Foulsham. The authors and in some cases even the titles are not properly identified in this reprint in some cases, but can be deduced from library records, as I have proceeded to show.

[2] BL records an edition published by Foulsham in 1921

[3] BL records an edition published by Foulsham in 1915

[4] BL records an edition published by Foulsham in 1918

[5] Worldcat records an edition published by Foulsham in 1915

[6] COPAC records an edition of 1916 published by Robert Hayes

[6a] Title as taken from title page; the front cover title is instead ‘Astrologie für Anfänger, II: Das Horoslop ohne Mathematik’

[6b] Title as taken from title page; the front cover title is instead ‘Astrologie für Anfänger, III: Das Horoslop ohne Mathematik’

[7] The full subtitle to the main title page and front dj flap. The subtitle to the half-title page is instead: “A translation of his non-theological writings’.

[8] A very large-format, heavily illustrated book focused on old artistic depictions of the constellations, with text on their historical mythology. Translated from the Italian first edition entitled “Le dimore del cielo”, published by Novecento Editrice, Palermo, Italy, 1987

[9] The inverted commas are as printed. Why they might be felt to be needed in the name of a publisher is unclear to me.

[10] The advertisement towards the rear of the volume further credits the present work to ‘Saint-Denys’, i.e. Hervey de Saint-Denys, who is credited in Worldcat as a contributor to the overall Atsume Gusa series of publications of which the present volume was just one of eight. It is not clear what role he played in the preparation of the present text, however.

[11] Since there are no pp. 93-6 present, it is presumed that the folding table is counted as four pages for pagination purposes

[12] Despite the pretentious title, this is not a work of financial astrology, but rather an elementary Sun sign guide marketed at the businessmen of its day as though to make it more acceptable for them to show a passing interest in such a subject as astrology

[13] The leaf missing from this copy is dominated by a coupon to be cut out and returned to the author in exchange for a free horoscope; it is likely therefore to be missing from a great many copies. Copy B is in generally much poorer condition, as shown by the description, but has the coupon intact and therefore makes up for this lack in the otherwise much better copy

[13a] Advertising at rear shows cannot predate 1922 and is probably from 1930 or later thanks to advertising for a book called You, I, and the Stars, which, although the authorship is not clearly specified, and unless it is referring to an obscure earlier book by Seward himself, was written by Llewellyn George and is recorded as first having been published in 1930
