[1] A heavy, very-large-format, lavishly produced book, containing many colour illustrations even on ordinarily numbered pages

[1a] A collection of ten essays by different scholars, including Liz Henty, Tore Lomsdalen, Bernadette Brady and the editors, together with a general introduction by Silva

[1b] A collection of 13 essays on assorted archaeoastronomical topics by different scholars, including the editors and Nicholas Campion, preceded by a detailed introduction detailing the academic career of the anthropologist Lionel Sims (1945-2021)

[1c] This substantial, scholarly volume is a compilation of the transcripts of 27 lectures delivered by some 37 different scholars, some of them working in groups, at the conference described. The lectures are divided into the following topical headings: Maltese Archaeoastronomy (3); Cosmology and Cosmovision (6); Astronomical Orientations (9); Astronomy and Culture in Historical Times (3); North and South America (3); and Egypt, the Mediterranean and Asia (3)

[2] The included advertisements suggest a date of circa 1847

[3] The advertisements suggest that this is a circa 1849 printing of this work originally published thus in 1847

[3a] With separate title page to [p. 307]: “Mathematical and Astronomical Tables For the use of Students of Astro-Mathematics[,] Practical Astronomers, Astrologers, and Astro-Meteorologists, with an Introduction, Containing an Explanation and Use of the Tables” – Third Edition by John Story, Sheffield, 1902 – Foulsham & Co., 4, Pilgrim Street, Ludgate Hill – Jas. Neville, Printer, Sheffield

[4] With separate title page to [p. 307]: “Mathematical and Astronomical Tables For the use of Students of Astro-Mathematics[,] Practical Astronomers, Astrologers, and Astro-Meteorologists, with an Introduction, Containing an Explanation and Use of the Tables” W. Foulsham & Co. Ltd., 10/11, Red Lion Court, Fleet Street, E.C. 4, London

[5] An early reprint, in the time-frame of 1922-39, of the 1890 edition produced by Story shown above

[6] COPAC suggests 1847

[6a] Ostensibly the first printing of John Story’s reprint, after the original edition of 1848. While the publisher address could date it at any time from 1885 to July 1911, John Story’s address at 157, Lansdowne Road is notably different from that given in ‘The Key to Scientific Prediction’ (1896) (q. v. above); and yet the advertising at the back mentions a ‘second edition’ of Simmonite’s Horary Astrology as being ‘now ready’. This would seem to tend to a dating shortly before 1896 for this edition, perhaps 1895, subject to further investigation into Story’s address in his other editions of Simmonite works. However, the National Library of Scotland firmly records 1890 for this edition, while other British deposit libraries only speculatively record wildly inaccurate dates that are not even possible for Story’s edition

[7] Appears to be the true first edition of this work, predating the undated edition that was printed in Leeds but published in London, although probably in the same year. Not held in any libraries listed on COPAC or Worldcat, but this is one of two copies I have seen for sale second-hand since 2005

[8] The cloth appears likely to be original in view of the original-looking title label to the front board and the lack of discontinuity of appearance between the endpapers and adjacent pages; however, this is difficult to ascertain for sure. The blind-stamped decoration to the front board strikes a floral theme; and the label is on an orange background and reads simply ‘Horary Astrology’

[9] Presumed to be the second edition. Although undated, recorded by the British Library to have been issued in 1851 in common with the first edition shown above. If the British Library record is correct, that would make it the second overall edition

[10] Presumed to be the third edition after those of Israel Holdsworth and Simpkin, Marshall & Co., as shown above

[11] Library records show 1854

[11a] After the original edition of 2014, reprinted 2015

[12] After the original edition by ACS Publications, 1989

[13] A unique manuscript at the Bibliothèque Nationale, believed by Boudet to have been produced in the years 1494-8.

[14] Described on the rear cover as “Maître de conférences de philosophie à l’université de Lille III”.

[15] A series of publications, many of whose other titles are advertised in the back of this volume.

[16] A former owner has attempted to correct ‘Politicien’ to ‘Politique’, the word used on the later edition, in black ink on both the front cover and the inner title page

[17] This would appear to be the original edition, although this copy was bought merely to replace the undated later one shown below upon the discovery of its missing 16 pages

[18] COPAC gives 1940 or 1941; CCFr., however, suggests 1942

[19] This copy lacks pp. 657-672, apparently as a result of a binder’s error

[19a] After the first edition of 2008, second edition of 2009, and first reprint of 2012

[19b] Rao is referred to as ‘Guide’ in the credits but also provides the 4-page preface

[19c] The text of this book is jointly provided in parallel English and Hindi passages or chapters throughout

[19d] After the first edition of August 2006 and the second & enlarged edition of 2010

[19e] Professor of History at Hunter College and at the Graduate School of the City University of New York, at this time

[20] The Library of Congress catalogue of copyright entries reports that Cora Sitrusis was a pseudonym for a Barbara J. Wolfe. Online sources show her school to have been based at 115 E. Illif. Avenue, Denver, USA
