[0] The author’s name is transliterated as B. E. Tumanian in the English-language summary towards the end of the volume

[0a] Translated as ‘A History of Armenian Astronomy’ in the English-language summary. However, the same Armenian word seems to represent both ‘astronomy’ and ‘astrology’, and some of the illustrations appear astrological.

[1] It is supposed, although unclear, that Purdy Publishing Co. was a distributor for the publications of the smaller Gnostic Publishing Co. and therefore assumed free licence to glue in its own flyer and add its own blind stamp to the back of this book.

[2] A collection catalogue edited by Bruce Chandler

[3] With separate title page to [p. 83]: “An Astrological Catechisme, Wherein the Art of Judicial Astrology is fully demonstrated by way of Question and Answer, All Objections against it fully cleared, and the use thereof proved to be most necessary. With an admonition concerning the right use thereof. – Translated out of Leolitius [sic – a misprint for Leovitius], and revised by Robert Turner. die [Jupiter]. 3 Jan. 1655. Asc. [Gemini]” Printed by J.C. 1657

[4] First edition thus. A completely reset reproduction of the text of the original edition bearing the publication credit: “printed by J. Cottrel, and to be sold by Martha Harison, at the Lamb at the East-end of Pauls, London, 1657”. To this are added two short appendices: an article by Lynn Thorndike entitled “Solomon and the Ars Notoria”, reproduced from A History of Magic and Experimental Science, Vol. II (pp. 105-8); and a listing of fifteen extant manuscripts of the Ars Notoria by Adam Mc.Lean (pp. 111-115)

[5] These 48 pages are in Hebrew script, presented from right to left according to convention, thus in reverse pagination order compared with conventional western pagination

[6] This book is divided into sections of widely varying length whose titles correspond with the titles of the twelve books in the previously published “Principles and Practice of Astrology” series by Tyl. In effect, it serves as supplementary material and learning guidance for each of the twelve books of that series, although the supplementation is much more limited for some books than for others.

[7] The date of the first edition is given as 1976.
