[1] Said to be an “expanded and updated” edition of the work first privately published by Celestial Handbook Publications, Flagstaff, Arizona, in 1966, with Volume III consisting solely of previously unpublished material and Volumes I and II being revised and greatly expanded from their original contents

[2] Ibid.

[3] The declared purpose of the bibliography is to survey “the scientific literature on alleged cosmic influences on humans, animals and plants”. Many academic journal articles, as well as books, are listed and summarised

[4] Salem Press is credited on the title page beneath The Scarecrow Press, Inc., as though joint publisher, but not mentioned on the copyright page

[5] A series of publications edited by Edward Peters, Professor of Medieval History, University of Pennsylvania

[6] A collection of thirteen papers by different academic historians, including two by Anthony J. Cárdenas (q.v.) and one by the editor

[7] The text is copyrighted 2010; and the cover photo is copyrighted 2012; but the actual printing date of this copy via print-on-demand is 2014

[8] “Collana Diretta da Antonio Panaino e Velizar Sadovski”. The series is said to be published by the Dipartimento di Beni Culturali dell’Alma Mater Studiorum Universita di Bolgogna, Sede di Ravenna, Italia, in collaboration with the Associazione Culturale “Mimesis”

[9] The full title as printed on the inner title page. The front dj cover instead bears a different, less specific subtitle, presumed for advertising purposes: “An illuminating outline of the origin of many customs, superstitions, mystic beliefs, and dogmas’.

[10] DNB records give 1936

[11] Appear likely to be the notes of Retsch

[12] On title page it is given instead as Lower Prel

[13] Title to front board and dj front cover is expanded to: ‘Forecasting Prices With Forecasts of Shares, Cotton and Oil-Seeds with Fluctuations for 1963 and 1964 A.D.’

[13a] A recent facsimile reprint, received new in 2016, of the original stated third edition published at Panjrapore Buildings, Karachi, dated September 1947. On this copy, every facsimile page has been overlain with the web address of the reprint publisher at diagonal angles, ostensibly as a copy protection measure, unfortunately obscuring several characters of text on about eight lines per page. It is mostly possible to decipher what the incomplete words should read.

[13b] Revised from the third edition entitled ‘Picking Winners in Races’ (q. v.). A further note to the title page reads: ‘In it are incorporated: All Handicap: Numerological & Astrological Secrets Discovered By Me During My Over 30 Years’ Racing Experience To Pick Winner In Each Race’

[13c] A further note to the facsimile title page reads: ‘In it are incorporated: All Handicap: Numerological & Astrological Secrets Discovered By Me During My Over 30 Years’ Racing Experience To Pick Winner In Each Race’. This is carried over unchanged from the fourth edition, q. v. above

[13d] Described in the author’s preface as a revision of the third edition of July, 1964, which bore the title ‘Picking Winners in Races’ (q. v.), in the light of further researches by the author in 1966 and 1967. This notice is carried over from the fourth edition., q. v. above; the mostly matching pagination between it and the present edition would strongly indicate that few changes had been made

[13e] A recent facsimile reprint, received new in 2016, of the edition originally published by the author in 1970 at 201, Shuvaji Nagar, Bombay-13 (India). On this copy, every facsimile page has been overlain with the web address of the reprint publisher at diagonal angles, ostensibly as a copy protection measure, unfortunately obscuring several characters of text on about eight lines per page. It is mostly possible to decipher what the incomplete words should read

[14] This is stated on the spine; yet internally there is no evidence of it being so, suggesting that it may be an unaltered second printing or binding from the original sheets

[15] This edition appears a monochrome facsimile of an earlier printing and exhibits relatively poor quality print in places. The main distinguishing feature from the original edition is that the ephemerides now run from 1863 to 1969, instead of 1820 to 1899. The publisher’s notice that ran from pp. 289-290 of the original edition has been excised.

[15a] Credited on the title page merely as J. B.

[15b] This title is commonly rendered into English characters as ‘Hagiastrologia’

[15c] This appears to be properly the inner title page to the first of the three books. The overall volume title page bearing a different extended title, as recorded by other library records, is missing from this copy. With separate title page introducing Book II to leaf following p. [92] of advertisements at the end of first section: ‘ΆΣΤΡΟΛΟΓΊΑ. Or, The most Sacred and Divine Science of Astrology Vindicated, Against The Reverend Dr. More’s Calumnies, in his Explanation of the Grand Mystery of Godliness. – By J. B., B. D., A Minister of Gods Word – London, 1680’. [No separate title page was issued to the third internal book, comprising the last 16 pages of the second main run of pagination, thus pp. 113-128. This has only a half-title on p. 113.]

[15d] This and the following titles were all bound together in what was the first edition, from 1681, of the overall book ‘Satyrs upon the Jesuits’ by John Oldham, an anthology of some of his verse. It would appear probable that an overall volume title page was originally issued but not retained in this copy as bound, since the author’s name is not given on the title pages to the separate internal books that together comprised the original volume

[15e] After the original Muswell Hill Press edition of 2014

[15f] Worldcat records estimate between 1917 and 1920

[16] Reprinted, in common with the two volumes following, from the original edition of 1912 published by Lucien Dorbon, libraire, 6, Rue de Seine, Paris

[17] Despite the lapse in pagination following p. 304, content is continuous and there is no duplication, so this copy is complete and the error lies solely in the pagination

[18] The pagination alone is in error, the content being continuous.

[19] Ibid.

[19a] Worldcat records a first edition dated December 1977

[20] After the first printing thus of 2006. The original edition was published in 1997 and reprinted in 2000
