[1] The author’s foreword, however, is dated November 1978. It would appear that publication were somewhat delayed, if this is indeed the original edition

[2] A reprint of the above. The text is unchanged but the cover design slightly different

[3] The dates of the earlier editions are given as December 1993; March 1995; and July 2000

[4] This book is presented by Eshelman in his introduction as an entirely new book written by the two authors together, although its title invokes Stanton’s earlier collaboration with Miriam Miyai “The Instant Astrologer”, q. v. under Stanton below.

[5] The chart is said to be taken from p. 51 of Troinski’s “Das Horoskop des Atom-Zeitalters”, q. v.

[6] Pp. [2]-142 of the first main block of pages of this book are given over to a monochrome facsimile reproduction of the 1785 edition of the quatrième cahier of Etteilla’s work ‘Manière de Se Récréer avec le Jeu de Cartes Nommées Tarots’. Pp. 143-256 constitute a supplement to the fourt cahier. The second block of pages is filled by Dr. Halbronn’s recent study listed in the title, which is dated 1992. For the first and second cahiers of Etteilla’s work, see the Jobert edition of 1977 listed beneath.

[7] Text is continuous from p. 214 to 217, so this must be a pagination error in the original printed source of which this is a facsimile reproduction

[8] These two prefixes appear on the front cover but neither of the internal title pages, which are exact facsimiles of those of the original edition, beginning thus with “Manière”

[9] The monochrome facsimile reproduction constituting the content of this volume is divided into two main parts with separate paginations and prefixed by separate title pages with the same basic title but a different suffix. The first ends ‘Pour servir de premier Cahier à cet Ouvrage’ and is dated 1783. The second ends on p. 154 ‘Pour servir de second Cahier à cet Ouvrage’ and is dated 1785. The remaining pages of the facsimile, numbered 155-202, are given over to a supplement to the second Cahier. For the fourth cahier, see the volume listed above. I am not aware of a modern edition of the third being available to date.

[10] It reads: ‘ “Ex Antiquis” Mago Thot Castelli’ and is stamped ‘010124’

[11] On this copy, the leaf remains internally bound to itself in such a way as to prevent complete opening, and clearly needs careful cutting.

[12] A series of publications of the Institut de Philosophie et de Sociologie at the Académie Polonaise des Sciences. The series was directed at this time by Wladyslaw Senko

[13] First thus. ‘This new edition, rewritten by Colin Evans and published in 1953.’

[14] “Revised and brought up to date by…”

[15] Revised from the 1953 Colin Evans edition shown above, which itself is said to have been a “rewritten” edition. The original edition by Herbert T. Waite of 1917 (q. v. under Waite, below) is said to have been reprinted in 1924, 1929 and 1936 prior to Evans’s edition

[16] Described on the rear dj flap as “Professor of Physics at The University of Puget Sound”. He has recently been appointed editor of the Journal for the History of Astronomy after Michael Hoskin retired after more than 40 years.

[17] This may be a later printing of a very successful book. The number 10 appears towards the foot of the page in isolation, possibly suggesting that it is a tenth printing, although no other numbers are present alongside.

[18] Copyright credits thus, but headline name credits take the informal form of “Jinni and Joanne”

[19] The advertising at the end gives a different address in the same state for ordering books from the authors: 7026 N.E. 170th, Bothell, Washington 98011

[20] It is copyright-dated 1972; but this clearly relates to the original edition. By the time of this printing, all volumes in the series were available, so it must be from 1974 or later, although no further date is printed

[21] Copyright credits thus, but headline name credits take the informal form of “Jinni and Joanne”

[22] Ibid.

[23] The advertising at the end gives a different address in the same state for ordering books from the authors: 7026 N.E. 170th, Bothell, Washington 98011

[24] Reprinted from the original edition of the German translation published by Paul List Verlag, also of München, in 1982, after the original English-language edition published in the same year ‘Astrology – Science or Superstition?’, q. v.
