[1] Said to be a translation of a French original

[2] No library records found. Guessed at early 1980s; cannot be later than 1982

[3] No library records found. Guessed at early 1980s

[4] A manuscript at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France that seems to be composed entirely of astrological paintings. It is said to have been ordered by the entourage of Fréderic II of Hohenstaufen (1194-1250), and to draw on Hermann of Corinth’s abbreviated Latin translation of Abu Ma’Shar’s Great Introduction. The present volume, which is printed on very large-format paper, is a photographic reproduction of the original manuscript pages, many as full-page colour plates but the later ones four-to-a-page, together with modern text commentaries.

[4a] After the original edition of 1998

[5] Dated 1987, but almost certainly falsely, this being a much later impression

[6] It is yet unclear to which impression this date relates

[7] It is unclear to which printing(s) this dates

[7a] After the original edition of 2004, q. v. above

[7b] Credited as overall project manager, and as one of three editors together with Julian Wise and Arlan Wise

[7c] A collection of 13 articles by different well-respected professional astrologers, to which are appended eleven interviews with astrologers

[8] A series of publications edited by Johannes M. M. H. Thijssen and Christoph Lüthy, both of Radboud University, Nijmegen, in consultation with Joël Biard, Simo Knuuttila, John E. Murdoch, Jürger Renn and Theo Verbeek

[9] The edition of Fernel’s text has been transcribed from the edition of his Universa Medicina that was printed at Paris in 1567. Here it is presented with facing English translation, and preceded by a study and a synopsis

[10] His real name is believed to have been properly spelled Auger, and he is credited thus in the author field in most library records; but the original French edition of 1550 spelled it Oger, so Kelway has merely carried this convention forward to his translation here.

[11] A facsimile reprint, issued early-mid 2000s, of the original edition bearing the publication credit: “Printed at the widdow Charlewoods house, for Richard Watkins, at London, Anno. 1593”. This edition in itself was a translation of the original French edition of 1550, which was entitled “Des iugemens astronomiques sur les nativitez”

[12] That is, 116 further pages, with only one page number being allocated to each second page on the original edition. John Ballantrae has added in matching page numbers on most of the facing pages for this edition

[13] The title page goes on to note that the President of this organisation is Ad. Ferrière, Docteur en Sociologie, Genève, while its Secrétaire is K. E. Krafft, caractérologue, Zurich

[14] Stated as being a reprint of the 2nd edition of 1950 and is clearly photocopy-based, in common with the two volumes to follow

[15] Described as “the publishing program of the Center for Medieval and Early Renaissance Studies at the State University of New York in Binghamton”

[16] An edition with facing English translation of Ficino’s “De vita libri tres”, based on the Editio princeps of 1489. It is preceded by a study comprising pp. 3-89. The translation is supported by endnotes spanning pp. 409-460. Indices conclude the volume

[17] After the first printing of 1989
