Anonymous (1) ‘Man’s Journey through Life under Zodiacal Influence.[3] When we begin to study the constellations of the heavens, and the signs of influence portrayed thereby, we are entertaining a stupendous subject. When we are required to carry it to its third cycle of unfoldment, we will be called upon to put forth great effort in concentration of thought energy, that we may be convinced by its divine law, and comprehend and believe our deductions. As all things have their being in our consciousness of them, then the whole universe exists within the mind of Spirit-Man. Therefore there is no part of the great expanse of the heavens which may not be reached and known. But it is necessary to travel on the wings of the divine law, out from which all of these things came; for by the law of them we may perfectly know them’ Published by The Ancient Record Publishers, Los Angeles, California, U.S.A., 1927. [1] A collection of essays by ten different astrologers, including the editors, who contribute one essay each

[1a] Believed circa 2006-7. A recently published photocopy of the original, with some text pages very unsatisfactorily copied, with parts or all so dark as to be illegible, another blurred to the point oif illegibility during scanning, and numerous scratchings-out and ink stains carried forward from the original copy making parts of even clearly-copied pages illegible. It nonetheless remains a useful reference resource in the absence of the vastly expensive original edition

[1b] The date of the first edition is not given

[1c] A series of publications collectively edited by Leslie Schramer and Thomas G. Urban with the assistance of Felicia Whitcomb

[1d] A compendium of revised versions of sixteen papers presented at the fifth annual University of Chicago Oriental Institute Seminar held on March 6th-7th, 2009 and entitled ‘Science and Superstition: Interpretation of Signs in the Ancient World’. Contributors include Ulla Koch and Francesca Rochberg

[2] The title to the main inner title page, with following extended subtitle. The front cover title is differently represented as ‘The Ancient Sacred and Secret Law of the Christ’, with no subtitle following

[3] This is the title to the main inner title page. The front cover bears the different title ‘The Zodiac Under the Law of the Christ’ and lacks the lengthy subtitle that follows the main title on the inner title page

[29] Internal references however strongly indicate the exact year 1940

[30] There are no available clues to the identity of the author, but in view of the title, it seems reasonable to suppose that he or she was influenced by Hiram Butler’s work

[31] Not in Worldcat. A hand-inked presentation notice on front cover is dated April 21st, 1896, indicating a probable origin within a year or two before this date, if not in 1896 itself

[32] Working title taken from the hand-inked label to the front cover. Clearly an extract from an (unidentified) longer French work, since all pages before p. 136 are missing here

[33] A facsimile reprint, issued early-mid 2000s, of another copy of the edition above. The Ballantrae Reprint edition has been bound back-to-back in a double-ended volume with a reprint of Gaster, M. “The Wisdom of the Chaldeans”, q. v. below

[34] “Édition établie et présentée par Miguel Leon-Portilla; Traduit de l’espagnol (Mexique) par Myriam Dutoit”

[35] The present edition appears to be part of a collection of publications called ‘Les Voies du Sud’, but this is not at all clearly presented.
