  1. I am interested in buying fakir Chandra dutt’s book titled: Rhythm of life – please notify me when you are free. Thanks in advance

    • To Srugan and everyone else who has been enquiring about the sources by Fakir Chandra Dutt in this library:

My originals have been in storage (and therefore temporarily inaccessible) for the past two years as a result of international relocation and the need to establish a permanent home for the library. They should be moved to their new home next month (October 2018) and unpacked by the end of the year. They are not for sale, but I’ll look into whether they can legally be scanned at the earliest opportunity once they have been unpacked, as there is clearly strong demand for his work. Thank you all for your interest.

      • Dear Philip,
Thanks in advance and I wish you a happy relocation. May the new place bring you auspiciousness into your family.

    • Hello, Satvik!
      Thank you for your interest.
Are you more interested in the 1935 edition or that of 1948? I have originals of both, but only one of each.
It seems quite surprising that there are no reprints of either edition yet, but I do not know its copyright status.
If I knew it was out of copyright I’d scan it but I’m not sure if it is. I don’t know much about Indian copyright law.

    • Hello again, Srugan!

Further to my reply last October, I don’t yet know the copyright status of this book. According to Indian copyright law as represented by online sources, copyright in books first published in India lasts for sixty years from the death of the author. I cannot find any record of the date of death of Fakir Chandra Dutt from here, but unless it can be established that he died before January 1st, 1959, the work could still be in copyright today. Are there any public records in India where his dates of birth and death could be verified?

      Yours sincerely,

      Philip

    • Yes, originals of both the 1935 edition and that of 1948 are present in the library. I do not know the author’s date of death, so the copyright status of the book is unclear to me. There have been many requests for copies but I don’t know if it would be legal to take a scan or not without establishing whether or not Mr. Dutt died more than 70 years ago, but I suspect he didn’t.
