Bibliography of Mundane Astrology
The main part of this select bibliography is limited to books and standalone typescripts on mundane astrological themes. It therefore excludes all general prophetic almanacs and magazine articles that give astrological forecasts. A comprehensive listing of these would be a major research undertaking exceeding the time available to me. However, I have now added a section dedicated to special mundane issues of astrological journals, and a handful of noteworthy almanacs dedicated to nothing but mundane astrology forecasts, after the main listings.
Some books may have evaded my vigilance as a result of their not having the usual keywords in their titles. If you are aware of any missing sources of relevance, please do not hesitate to email me on solger75 [at] gmail.com with suggested additions.
Academic history books looking at the interface between astrology and politics in particular time periods have generally been excluded because their aim is not to teach mundane astrological techniques. Also excluded have been books specific to financial astrology, stock market forecasting and astrological weather prediction, which merit their own separate lists, although there is some cross-over in titles that cover multiple such themes.
Traditional astrology textbooks that cover multiple areas of the discipline including mundane but do not indicate this in their title pages have as a rule been excluded thus far because they are not apparent from keyword searches and the focus of these books tends to be diverse. Those looking specifically for ancient, medieval or Renaissance material on mundane astrology would be strongly advised to scour individual sources from these time periods for relevant content. However, major works by William Ramesey and Ebenezer Sibly, which are particularly influential in this area, included relevant keywords on their extended title pages and are therefore featured here; and several prophetic tracts by William Lilly that are held in facsimile editions are also included.
A limited selection of the most relevant and culturally important works by and about Michel de Nostradame (Nostradamus) has been included, with the ones focused on his astrological methods prioritised; but many works of marginal apparent relevance to the topic at hand, including biographical works about him, have been omitted to prevent them from swamping the mundane astrology focus.
I have generally included dedicated astrological studies of modern elected politicians such as Presidents, but have excluded most of those of Kings and Queens.
To keep the bibliographical focus easy to follow, binding information and pagination details have been stripped out of longer works and retained only for short typescripts and other short works under 100 pages long, to illustrate their limited true length. Full details for the other works can be found in the complete version of our integrated library catalogue.
If wishing to cite this select bibliography itself, please link to its web URL and do not copy and paste it to other online locations or publications – a lot of work goes into cataloguing these books, and all rights are reserved.
Thank you,
Philip Graves, May 11th, 2025

[1] A series of publications edited by H. Daiber and D. Pingree
[2] This volume contains the Arabic text with facing English translation (pp. 2-565), followed by a study entitled “Sources and Doctrines”, and preceded by an introduction
[3] “Latin text edited by Ch. Burnett[;]and Arabic-Latin, Latin-Arabic Glossaries by K. Yamamoto & Ch. Burnett”
[4] A series of publications edited by H. Daiber and D. Pingree
[5] This volume comprises a critical edition of the Latin text, showing the variant readings of different versions (pp. 3-317); an edition and English translation of some additional ‘long notes’ found in two of the Latin versions (pp. 320-339); a few short ‘related texts’ (pp. 342-351); extensive Arabic-Latin and Latin-Arabic glossaries (pp. 354-556), and indices
[5a] The author’s full address is given on the advertisement to the rear cover as ’23 St. Marks Place, Brooklyn, N. Y.’
[5b] This reads ‘Frank Theodore Allen, Scientific Astrologer, 204 Dartmouth St., Boston’. The bound-in pamphlet bears the same address; and a note at the back of it announces the author’s relocation from New York to his present address, which is further identified as ‘the Banner of Light Building’
[5c] But this refers to original printing; advertising at rear for services of Astro Numeric Service mentioning President Reagan’s rule in the past tense indicates this is a much later undeclared reprint, probably late 1980s
[5d] A German translation of the above. For the 1990 reprint, see under revised author attribution of Lewis, Jim, below
[5e] This work is not explicitly astrological but came to the library from the collection of a 20th-century German astrologer and is historically highly relevant to the concerns of mundane astrology in making a prophetic analysis of the prospects for a new world war based on current trends in German politics
[6] After the original printing of 1984
[7] Copyrighted 1984; this is the third impression, with no separate year declared
[8] A compendium of seventeen essays by the authors on different facets of mundane astrology, of which three by Baigent; four by Campion, seven by Harvey, one by Baigent and Campion together, and two by all three
[9] A reprint of the second edition of 1992, after the original edition published by The Aquarian Press in 1984
[10] This imprint appears to refer to a particular range of books published by Albin Michel
[11] The transcript of the author’s conference lecture given at the Centre Internationale d’Astrologie on 12th October, 1966, but whose writing was completed on 26th September, 1966
[12] A translation of ‘Les Cycles Planétaires: L’Astrologie Mondiale’, q. v.
[12a] The full address is not given on the title page but is apparent from advertising at the rear of the volume
[13] DNB gives 1952
[14] This is by design identical to the original one laid in with Sonderdruck Nr. 11, q. v. immediately below, but would appear to have originally been issued in Sonderdruck 12, yet has been lost (in its original form) from these copies
[15] An academic journal subtitled ‘Yearbook of the History of Metaphysics’ and constituting a series of publications, collectively edited by Constantino Esposito and Pasquale Porro at this time
[16] A compilation of 13 essays on the history of astrology by different scholars, including Charles Burnett, Shlomo Sela, Stefano Rapisarda, Nicolas Weill-Parot, Carlos Steel, Alexander Fidora and Jean-Patrice Boudet, together with eight others not related to astrology, and two book reviews.
[17] Copyrighted 1897, but this is clearly an early undated reprint, presumed from the 1910s or 1920s in view of the dates of Seward’s other publications
[18] After the original Aquarian Press edition of 1988, q. v., the first Cinnabar Books edition of 1995, and the revised second printing of the latter, from 1996. It is not apparent how major or minor the revisions are since the first Cinnabar Books printing, but they are presumed to be of the nature of typographical corrections
[19] A reprint of the above, with more cheaply-made, thinner card covers
[19a] After the Turm-Verlag edition of 1977, whose copyright date is retained. Appears from the matching pagination structure to be a retitled paperback reprint of the book formerly called ‘Nostradamus: Prophetische Weltgeschichte’, as first published by Turm-Verlag in 1971, for which edition see above
[20] A wide-ranging set of broadly philosophical essays, some with astrological content
[21] This edition has been reset with more lines per page, and has a revised Author’s Preface, an updated photograph of the author, a new 41-page chapter entitled Predictions Concerning the Immediate Future of the Principal Nations of the World, and a new 22-page text chapter on Earthquakes and Upheavals that replaces the original uncommented dated chronology of historical earthquakes.
[21a] The frontispiece photo of Cheiro in this edition is dated 1933, so this edition cannot predate that and seems most likely to be from 1933 or 1934. The internally retained printing details are out-of-date, indicating ‘Reprinted 1931’.
[22] This book is mainly looking at the influence of the then-recently discovered Transneptunian Objects such as Sedna and Eris. However, the final chapter takes a look at the mundane astrological indicators in 2012
[22a] A collection of 21 essays by seven different astrologers including Jonathan Keyes; Bernie Ashman; Robert Hand; Kris Brandt Riske; David Crook; Georgia Anna Stathis; and the editor, wrapped up in the editor’s introduction and conclusion
[23] After the original AFA edition of 1979
[24] Contains horoscopes and aspect grids for all the countries of the world as they were in the 1980s, with facing description and analysis by the author
[25] After the original printing of 1984
[26] A compendium of the translator’s English translations of numerous excerpts from chiefly medieval astrological works, arranged by theme into four main parts: Weather; Prices & Commodities; Eclipses & Comets; and Chorography and Climes. The authors include Ptolemy, Al-Kindi, ‘Umar al-Tabari, Masha’allah, Jirjis, Al-Rijal, Ibn Labban, Jafar, Hermann of Carinthia, John of Spain, Robert Grosseteste, Dorotheus, Abu Ma’Shar, Ibn Ezra, Al-Qabisi, Sahl, Shadhan, Bonatti, and Al-Biruni
[27] This second volume in the series begins with a lengthy introduction by Dykes, before moving to his translations of the excerpts and longer texts shown in the order given
[28] Library catalogue records indicate 1923
[29] Internal evidence suggests late 1921. DNB records are undediced between 1921 and 1922
[30] For the edition relating to predictions for 1928, see under Hoffmann, L., below
[31] According to DNB records, the first edition of this prophetic tract was printed in 3,000 copies, the second in another 3,000, and the fifth (from the 21st to the 30th thousand) in 10,000, which would mean that the third (not listed in their records) must have been in 8,000. All five editions indicated as having been published in 1924, suggesting that the book was a great success for its time
[32] For the edition relating to predictions for 1928, see under Hoffmann, L., below
[33] According to DNB records, the first edition of this prophetic tract was printed in 3,000 copies, the second in another 3,000, and the fifth (from the 21st to the 30th thousand) in 10,000, which would mean that the third (not listed in their records) must have been in 8,000. All five editions indicated as having been published in 1924, suggesting that the book was a great success for its time
[33a] Said to be a translation of a French original
[33b] After the original edition of 1996
[34] The original copyright date is given as 1999
[34a] Library records suggest 1941
[34b] After the original edition published by Kings Hart Books in 2009
[35] This French edition, which was sourced by a French bookseller from an auction sale of remnants of the private library of Maurice Privat, is presumed to have been produced in the late 1930s or 1940s and distributed privately in small quantities, since there is no evidence of formal publication. It includes an added ‘Chapitre XI bis’ on Pluto, comprising pp. 98-113, and presumed written entirely by Privat, in common with similar additions of his to some other works he translated
[36] A combined paperback reprint of the works featured elsewhere in this catalogue in their original editions by the same authors
[36a] After the first printing of 1983
[37] The front cover omits the part in parentheses, and adds after ‘d’Interprétation’: ‘Suite au Manuel d’Astrologie – tome V’
[38] No library records found; but American copyright database suggests that the original edition, of which this is clearly a recent reprint, was published in 1965 and linked to predictions for 1965
[38a] NB: a non-astrological analysis that happens to have made its way into this collection, but should nonetheless prove of historical interest to mundane astrologers
[38b] The original publication date is given as 21 February, 1941, suggesting a rapid succession of revised editions being produced in the space of a few months
[39] Believed from the theme and internal advertising to be probably from 1993 or 1994
[40] A print-on-demand publication; this copy printed 2022
[41] For the 1924-7 edition of this series of two works, see under Ebertin, E., above
[42] The address is apparent from the publisher’s stamps to the half-title page with which the volume commences. It lacks a full title page except on the front cover, which gives only the publisher’s name and no part of its address
[43] These are promised by one of the stamps to the half-title page as ‘3 graphiques’. The same stamp also announces ‘1 règlette’ but this is lacking from this copy
[44] Retitled from the original edition ‘A Chronology of American Charts’, published by Poz Publications, 1998
[44a] Appears an unaltered reprint of the 1929 edition
[45] The flyer gives Johndro’s then address a 211 Central Building, Rochester, N. Y., but it has been corrected in pencil to San Bernadino, Calif.
[46] After the first edition of 1913
[46a] This French edition of Krafft’s interpretations of the quatrains of Nostradamus in the light of current European events is said to have been translated by Krafft himself from his original German edition of 1940, but with significant differences in content in a few places, marking it out as unique among the several editions of Krafft’s work. The Spanish edition (q. v. below) is believed to be a verbatim translation by another translator from Krafft’s original German.
[46b] A relatively common Spanish translation of the rare original German edition (pub. 1940) of this work; for the French edition, see above under ‘Comment…’.
[47] The address shown was the A.F.A.’s address from 1944 to 1954 inclusive at least. It had been displaced by 6, Library Court by November 1963. This may therefore conceivably be the original printing of this volume; and it cannot in any event be later than 1963.
[48] The final article called for in the table of contents is signed on p. 82, which therefore appears to be the end of the volume. There is no evidence of any contents having been removed, the staples being firmly bound around the final leaf. It is therefore clear that the volume was significantly extended in a later edition published some time between this one and the post-1975 printing held, if not for the first time in that printing, which is possible
[49] A facsimile reprint, in or after 1975 (as shown by the publisher’s address), of the original edition copyrighted (and presumably first published) in 1949
[50] The text between pp. 141 and 143 is not continuous. One sentence starts on p. 141 and a different one ends on p. 143. Therefore it is evident that there should be a page 142 which is missing. It is not known if this printing error affected all copies of this printing, just one small batch, or just this copy
[51] Worldcat records for tentatively suggest 1935, which seems credible based on internal evidence, including references to events that took place in late 1933
[52] Publisher address legend to front cover is instead ‘Paris – Bruxelles’
[53] In print at the end of the volume, the author states that he finished writing it on Dec. 22, 1937, so a 1938 dating would seem more likely for the actual publication, although the BNF claims 1937 in its catalogue record
[54] A German translation of Lasson’s French book “L’Astrologie Mondiale” (1938-9), q. v. above. The date of this translation could be any time from 1938 onwards. The translation has been bound up in the same style as the binding of Rudolf Fischer’s 1996 price list (q. v.) and is labelled in his handwriting. But the paper is decades older, and the translation could be from any time from 1939 onwards, with a mid-20th century date most likely
[55] On the dj rear flap it is stated that she is ‘often called America’s foremost astrologer’ – the same as was claimed of Carroll Righter by his publisher only a year earlier, and similar to claims made of the original Zolar in 1962
[55a] The overall publication is undated, but one of the two essays in it is dated January 28, 1915, and the introduction refers to “October last, 1914”, so 1915 would seem to be indicated as the year of publication
[56] After the original edition whose preface, retained, is dated 1920
[57] ’Ein Bruder des Herrn und seine Gesichte’ by Karl Friedrich
[58] A facsimile reprint, issued in the early-mid 2000s, of the original bearing the imprint: “Printed by J. R. for John Partridge and Humphrey Blunden, and to be sold at the Cock in Ludgate-Street, and at the Castle in Cornhill, London, 1645”
[59] A facsimile reprint, issued in the early-mid 2000s, of the original bearing the imprint: “Printed by G. M. and are to be sold by John Sherley and Thomas Underhill, at the Golden Pellican in little Brittaine, and Bible in Woodstreet, London, 1644”
[60] A facsimile reprint, issued in the early-mid 2000s, of the original bearing the imprint: “Printed for the Company of Stationers, and H. Blunden at the Castle in Corn-hill, London, 1653”
[62] A facsimile reprint of the original bearing the imprint: Printed by T. B. for John Partridge and Humfrey Blunden, and to be sold in Blackfriers going into Carterlane, and at the Castle in Cornhill, London, 1648
[63] A facsimile reprint of the original printed for the Company of Stationers, and H. Blunden, at the Castle in Cornhill, London, 1652
[64] A facsimile reprint (post-2000) of the original printed by John Raworth, for John Partridge, and to be sold at the Sun in Paul’s Church yard, London, 1644
[65] A facsimile reprint of an original whose publisher is not specified here; the foreword is dated 1651. Library records show the first edition to have borne the imprint: “Printed for Humfrey Blunden, dwelling at the sign of the Castle in Corn-hill, London, 1651”. But there were further editions in 1653 and 1655; and it is not apparent which one this facsimile reprint was based upon
[65a] After the first edition of March 20th, 1981
[66] This volume presents horoscopes and aspect grids for 69 countries and about seven other entities of relevance to mundane astrology, with facing analysis by Malec
[67] This sequel to the volume above presents horoscopes and aspect grids for a further 58 countries and two other entities of relevance to mundane astrology, with facing analysis by Malec
[67a] After original edition of 1992 and two subsequent reprints in same year
[67b] Facsimile edition, translation and study of the surviving fragment of Masha’allah’s otherwise lost book “On Conjunctions, Religions, and Peoples”
[68] After the original edition of October 2008, second edition of October 2009, and first reprint of July 2015
[69] The hand-pencilled title on the overall folder as provided by a former student of Meier-Parm, who passed them on to this library
[70] Not listed here are a few incomplete scraps of uncertain belonging to any other article in the folder, including a p. 3 starting ‘von Filmstreifen das Geld’, a cut leaf about Hitler and the NSDAP with two extracts from print publications dated 26. February 1932 pasted onto it, two copies (one only partial) of a p. 4 starting ‘Ich zog damals schon die Konsequenz’, and a very faded unnumbered leaf on oversized translucent copier paper, commencing ‘Bedeutung die Konjunktion von Venus und Mars ist’
[71] The article is signed off after Leaf 4, but a Leaf 5 with just one short paragraph of text about Hitler accompanies the article, though in a different colour, casting doubt on its possible belonging as an afterword to the main article, although this is a credible hypothesis
[72] The reason for the inconsistent pagination is not immediately apparent
[73] This is addressed to Herr Sachs [editor of Deutschlands Zukunft, q. v.) and dated 12. März 33
[74] It is not clear why the second instalment starts on leaf 8. The two instalments have been hand-numbered I. and II. Part I appears to firmly end with Leaf 5, so it is possible that there were originally two additional leaves of Part II.
[75] This article is dated 5. Nov. 1932
[76] Here are added suggested birth and data for King Henry IV
[77] This piece is quite possibly incomplete, as the third page ends with a dash. An unnumbered leaf about Das Horosco Frankreichs is found elsewhere in the folder, together with a hand-inked set of notes about Heinrich IV von Frankreich, suggesting a possible tie-in with the article
[78] This is advertising Maximilian Bauer’s journal Die Weltpolitische Rundschau, apparently in Meier-Parm’s own words, suggesting that he was volunteering this advertising copy to Herr Bauer in support of the journal
[79] Also included in the folder is a separate page on oversized thin copier paper that touches on the same theme, apparently part of a longer article, but with a heading only partly printed, ending ‘in der Partsileutung’. This has not been separately catalogued here because its title and belonging are too unclear
[80] On copy B, this first part of the title has been crossed out in pencil and another one, begnining ‘General von Hammerstein, Chef der Heeresleitung’, proposed instead in a pencilled note above
[81] Leaf 2 of Copy A is in a different colourand strength of type from Leaf 1, and should be carefully checked against the other copy to make sure it belongs to this article
[82] The extra leaf may not belong to this article but was found with it and is being retained with it accordingly until such time as its true belonging may be established. It is headed ‘Einschaltung’ and leads into a single paragraph about the prominent German politician Otto Wels
[83] [sic]
[84] These each consist of an original typed leaf on paper followed by three increasingly low-quality duplicates on copy paper
[85] It is not clear why the fifth leaf is numbered ‘4’ and the sixth ‘5’
[86] The error appears to be in the pagination rather than indicating a missing page and a spurious one having been inserted in its place
[87] This is addressed to Herr Bauer and dated 21. August 1934
[88] The title appears to have been accidentally printed on the wrong side of the leaf relative to the rest of the content, or vice versa
[89] The second leaf 4 has entirely different contents from the first and is undersigned ‘Parm’, suggesting it is the end of an article. It is unclear whether it belongs in this article at all, although the typescript colour and thickness and the vertically ruled line on the outer margin matches it. Perhaps it was part of an earlier draft, intended to be inserted into this one.
[90] This page is not signed, making it unclear whether it stood alone or as part of a longer article
[91] The content of the last two leaves is incomplete and it seems possible that they were part of an initial outline plenary draft.
[92] This is addressed to Herr Bauer and dated 14. Nov. 1934
[93] This is addressed to Herr Bauer and dated 3. Sept. 34
[94] These have been cut beneath and above the text sections and are thought to probably originate in a single leaf
[95] The contents are chiefly a compendium of 24 published articles by the author that previously appeared in the astrological newspaper Deutschlands Zukunft, q. v.. They are preceded by an introductory essay. The volume concludes with ten rules for forecasting (using mundane astrology).
[96] Credited as Jyotishacharya, M.A., Ph.D.
[97] “with assistance in compilation from Tim Browning”
[98] A compendium of computerised horoscope, aspect grid and midpoint print-outs for 158 countries, without any individual commentary or analysis. Each print-out is printed at right-angles to the lie of the book, and spread over two facing pages. The print-outs are preceded by a fourteen-page essay by the late Moore, offering theoretical guidelines for the interpretation of mundane horoscopes. This volume was the earlier of two books bearing the shortened form of its title, the other being by Nicholas Campion, q. v.
[98a] The author Marcel Proust died in 1922, which rules him out as a candidate, but the recipient might conceivably have been a relative or descendant of his
[98b] Of the 394 copies issued, those numbered 1-77 were supplemented by a “suite” of the artwork featured in the volume in special papers; and those from 1-22 further accompanied by an original gouache painting
[98c] Brind’Amour, of Ottawa, died in January 1995. Beforehand, he charged a local colleague, Pierre Kunstmann, to bring his edition of the 1555 edition of the first centuries to publication. Kunstmann revised the work, completing Brind’Amour’s unfinished introduction by adding 12 pages of his own material
[99] A print-on-demand book, copyrighted 2012; this copy purchased new in 2020
[100] After the original impressin in Marathi of October 1954 and the second impression in Marathi of December 1954
[101] Internal evidence and reason both suggest late 1965
[102] Internal evidence and reason both suggest late 1967
[105] An exact facsimile reprint of the 1911 second edition, except for the removal of the original publisher credit and imprimatur. The A.F.A. reprint was further reprinted in 2006, that time with the addition of a dust jacket
[106] This edition is said to have been enlarged with “numerous additional cities” and two provinces from the original edition thus of 1996, which itself was a major revision of a book by Penfield first published in 1976 under the different title “America: An Astrological Portrait of Its Cities and States”
[107] After original printing of 1996
[107a] Pseud. of Comte Pierre Vincenti
[108] Library records give 1914 for this original edition
[109] No library records could be found for this later edition, but the advertising at the rear of the volume indicates 1919 or 1920, which would be in line with other volumes in this binding. This edition appears to be a minimally altered reprint of the original one by the same author (q. v. above)
[109a] Worldcat tentatively suggests [1957], though it seems likely that this relates to the printing date for the original edition. Dorothy Hughes reprints typically seem to date from the 1970s-1980s
[110] This copy was acquired from remnants of the former library of Maurice Privat, via auction to a French bookseller. The volume is presumed to have been issued privately in small quantities, in the absence of any evidence of formal publication
[111]The overall production is presumed to date from the early 1940s, in line with this, but could be later.
[112]This work is said to have been a conference speech given by Horicks under the title ‘Quo Vadis’ at Bruxelles, February 1940, and subsequently published by him. Why Privat felt the need to reproduce Horicks’ text here (since it can be presumed originally to have been in French) with the addition of his own hand-labelled chart diagrams is not apparent in view of it having (according to his own testimony) already been published; but from his introduction it is clear that he admired it greatly.
[113] With additional sub-title page to Book I: “Astrology Fully Vindicated and Defended from all The Aspersions and Calymnies of the Antagonists thereof: As also its Legality and Verity proved, both by the Testimony of the Scriptures, Fathers, Antients, and the confession of Councels: With a clear Vindication of the Authors Lux Veritatis, from the vilifying Reproaches of Dr. Homes and his Second; and that the purity of the Science remaineth still untainted, notwithstanding all their Reply”. With additional title page to Book II: “An Introduction to the Iudgement of the Stars. Wherein the whole Art of Astrology Is plainly Taught, and the Ground-work or Reasons thereof for the benefit of the Students therein delivered, the better to confirm them in every point thereof; as also to satisfie such who shall either enviously or ignorantly traduce or cavil against it” Printed for R. W., London, 1653. With additional title page to Book III: “An Introduction to Elections, Fully comprehending The Rules of the Ancients in Electing a Time for any manner of Work: Never before made publique in our Mother Tongue. But now (by the Blessing of God) for the benefit of all true Lovers of knowledge sent abroad” Printed for R. W., London, 1653. With additional title page to Book IV: “Astrologia Munda or Astrology in its Purity: Being a Short but Compendious Introduction to the Iudging of the Annual or Yearly Revolutions of the World; by which, as also Eclipses, Great Coniunctions, Comets, and Blazing-Stars Are Iudged (by the ordinary Course and Order of Nature) the general accidents of Countries, Kingdoms, Provinces and Cities, alterations of Kingdoms and Empires, Laws and Customs, cause of Plenty, Dearth, Wars, Peace, Health, Sickness, alteration of the Ayr, and (to be short) of all things appertaining to the life of Man in a natural way; wherein the Infinite Wisdom of God is seen manifestly in the Government of the World by the Influence and constant Harmony of the Celestial Planets and Stars; the Innocency, Legality and Purity o the Art demonstrated, and proved by Demonstration of the Inevitable Events of the Heavens, so long as God upholdeth the order and course of Nature unperverted; And the Students thereof consequently proved rather Divines then Conjurers or Practisers of what is unlawful” Printed by R. W., London, 1653.
[114] The 2nd issue of the original edition, first published 1653. This copy lacks the occasionally-present frontispiece portrait of Ramesey, which appears to be missing from the vast majority (75-80%) of surviving copies that appear for sale, suggesting that it was probably not issued in the first place in most cases. A facsimile of the frontis. is included at the start of the Ballantrae Reprint of the 1653 edition, q. v. below. There was also a 1655 imprint, which is scarcer than either of the first two (photographs of a copy at auction were witnessed by me some years ago)
[115] A facsimile reprint, issued early 2000s, of the original 1653 printing of the work above. The extended title appears identical except for the lack of mention of a “Table of the most material things contained therein” that appears at the end on the 1654 printing shown above. For the sake of avoiding tedious duplication of text, I have abbreviated it here. The imprint is shorter than on the 1654 printing, reading simply: “Published by Authority. Printed for Robert White, London, 1653”. This facsimile lacks the last five pages of the index. The final errata page that followed them in the 1654 printing is also not present here. John Ballantrae appears to have removed removed the blanks from some of the leaves between the internal ‘books’, modifying the pagination there over the 1654 edition.
[116] Completely reset in modern type, with 2455 added footnotes
[117] After the first edition of 1993 and second of 1994
[119] The original edition of this volume, as distinguished by the combination of the printed year on the title page and the publisher’s correct address at that date
[120] There should be eight, but on this copy the final leaf has been torn out leaving a visible stub and some residual print-bleed onto the following free endpaper
[121] The publisher address shows this edition to date from 1940-49 or later
[122] After the original edition of 2007, q. v. above, the second edition of 2008, and the third edition of 2009
[123] Professor of medieval French literature at the University of Valenciennes
[124] A series of publications directed by Fanchon Pradalier-Roy at this time
[124a] This is stated on the front cover and may indicate that it this is a somewhat later printing of this best-selling prophetic tract, but there is no evidence of the internal contents having been revised from their original form
[125] DNB gives 1948
[126] A later issue of the above, as evidenced by the advertising for the first 40 Sonderdruck in the series on the inside of the rear cover
[127] These correspond to the ten single-sided leaves in the original issue, but with six of them repackaged onto both sides of three leaves to save space
[128] The implication is that this was planned as the first volume of a multi-volume series on mundane astrology, but I have found no evidence of other instalments under the same collective heading having appeared.
[128a] Library records show 1914
[129] Library records give 1929
[130] A facsimile reprint, issued early-mid 2000s, of an unspecified early edition of the work above. The identical pagination would suggest that the source edition was not materially different from the original Foulsham edition shown above
[131] Library records give 1925
[132] A straight-forward facsimile of the original Foulsham edition, q. v. above, with reduced margins
[133] The text of this edition has been reset and anonymously posthumously revised from the original one (q. v. above) with the addition of a new chapter entitled ‘From Past to Future’ that discusses events since 1945
[134] It is conceivable that this early edition may originally have been issued in two volumes, in common with all the later editions of this work; but there is no direct evidence of this remaining if so, for it has been bound into a single library binding at some stage, with the loss of the original title page to Volume II if there was one. At p. 275, additional title page subtitled “Part the Second, Containing the Doctrine of Nativities, and the Art of Resolving Horary Questions; Together with a Collection of Nativities of the most eminent and remarkable Persons, Twins, Dwarfs, Giants, &c.”, dated 1784. At p. 915, additional title page subtitled “Part the Third, Containing the Meteorological Part of Uranology; with Certain Rules for prejudging the Revolutions of every Part of the habitable World. General Effects of Great Conjunctions, Eclipses, Comets, Blazing Stars, and other Extraordinary Phenomena: with the Art of Calculating Eclipses, Tides, and Weather, For any Number of Years to come. The Whole Illustrated by a Figure of the Sun’s Ingress into the Sign Aries; and by a Revolutional Figure of the Commencement of the American Empire”, dated 1790. At p. 1057, additional title page subtitled “Part the Fourth. Containing the Distinction between Astrology, and the Wicked Practice of Exorcism. With a General Display of Witchcraft, Magic, and Divination, Founded upon the Existence of Spirits Good and Bad, and their Affinity with the Affairs of this World”, dated 1788.
[135] A facsimile reprint, issued early 2000s, of the second half of the second volume of the later edition of Sibly’s work in which the four volumes of the Ballantrae Reprint edition have been sourced. This second half of the second volume comprises the original Part the Third and Part the Fourth, as shown, both parts having been a lot shorter than the first two in the original work. Part the Third is here dated 1804, and Part the Fourth 1810, on their respective title pages as reproduced in facsimile. Again there are significantly more illustrations in these printings, as reproduced, than there were in the those of 1784-90
[136] It is not known whether this lack of a single page is common to all copies of the Ballantrae Reprint edition or just this one
[136a] Pseud. jointly used by Mme. Henriette Michaux and Louis-Henri Horicks in their combined work, according to Le Vicomte Charles de Herbais de Thun
[136b] A stamp to the ffep gives the publisher’s address as: 10a, Rue de Savoie, Bruxelles
[136c] Not in DNB. Other German library records estimate “ca. 1960”. Internal references suggest close to 1962, though could be before or possibly slightly after
[137] Retains only the original copyright date of 1978, which was that of the Weiser edition, but it is not clear whether this edition was published in the same year or slightly later
[138] The volume is visibly about 50% thicker on the shelf than that of the later copy. The advertising to the inside of the rear cover extends only to No. 40 in the series, suggesting that it is a very early impression and possibly the original issue
[139] The advertising to the inside of the rear cover extends to No. 46 in the series, showing it to be a slightly later impression
[140] That is to say, the sequel to Sonderdruck 21, also by Troinski, q. v. below
[141] Retains in print the original copyright date of 1956; but this may be a later reprint, to judge by the fresh quality of the covers, although there is no internal evidence by way of advertising to indicate this
[142] Page 61 is backed with page 64 on all copies I have inspected of this book, suggesting that there is no content missing but the pagination was in error
[143] The preface is dated August, 1954
[144] Internal references suggest probably 1933 or early 1934
[145] The typeface matches that for the previous tables, so this is presumed as issued despite the workmanlike production quality
[146] Library records record the original edition as being firmly from 1930, but only estimate the second as being from around the same year, which seems credible, although it could conceivably be a reprint from 1931 or 1932 if the topic remained of interest.
[147] The front cover adds this subtitle, not found on the inner title page: ‘An Analysis of the Birthchart of the United States and other Essays’
[148] After the original edition published in 2002 under the different title of ‘The United States of America: A Celestial View’
[149] COPAC records 1961 for this imprimatur
[149a] Front cover bears added subtitle: “Astrologie um Hitler – Mussolini – Himmler – Geobbels – Heydrich – Frank – Bormann – Hess – Frick – U.A.M.”
[149b] The only instance of the much-deprecated word ‘Astrologist[s]’ in any title in this catalogue, perhaps a function of the editor Michael Whitty’s broad-based interest in divinatory topics. The authors of the predictions within include Frank T. Allen; John B. Earley; Llewellyn George; John Hazelrigg; Frederick White; four little-known names, and one ‘Incog’
[150] Of the early-issue stock with rounded corners and no Roman numeral identifier to the spine
[151] A reset reprint of the above
[152] Pseud. of Lewis, Walter H.
[153] Front cover, at variance with title page, omits ‘Á la portée de tous’ and everything after ‘l’Astrologie’, and replaces ‘Ouvrage en Quatre Parties’ with ‘Traité d’Astrologie Sphérique’.
[154] Front cover instead gives ‘Les Éditions Leymarie’
[155] These changed every year so it seemed more appropriate to integrate them into the listings for the specific years than to represent the full titles under a separate heading.
[158] Title to front cover is extended to ‘1939 année de reprise Prédictions de Maurice Privat…. Plus de 1.000 Dates Importantes Pour la France et le Monde’
[159] Title to front cover is extended to ‘1940 Prédictions Mondiales: Année de Grandeur Française’, at variance with inner title
[160] Suspected of having been a pseudonym used by G.-L. Brahy to shield him against personal lawsuits arising from his penning of mundane astrological predictions amid a contemporary legal climate hostile to this.
[161] It is not presently known whether other issues under this title were also produced or whether this was a one-off. Typically, the predicitons credited to Stella appeared in ‘Demain’ during the years when it was in operation
