Bibliography of Evolutionary Astrology
This select bibliography is chiefly limited to books by Jeffrey Wolf Green, other books published by the Jeffrey Wolf Green School of Evolutionary Astrology, and other books whose titles specifically mention evolution, evolutional or evolutionary, or the equivalent in French, and in a context that appears to be relevant to the concept of personal or soul evolution rather than the evolution of nations, of psychology itself, or of other concepts.
There have been different takes on this theme over time, and while most of the books from 1985 onwards are specific to the Jeffrey Wolf Green school of evolutionary astrology, the earlier titles predating his work tend to vary widely in focus, but seem nonetheless to be relevant to the historical development of concepts around evolution in astrology, and are therefore suggested background reading for anyone interested in understanding the origins of the concept of evolutionary astrology.
Although Jeffrey Wolf Green himself is said to have claimed that his system appeared to him in a channelled dream from a deceased Indian monk and astrologer named Swami Sri Yukteswar (1855-1936) [see Green, Deva ‘The Birth of Evolutionary Astrology: Jeffrey Wolf Green’s Dream’ in Journal of Evolutionary Astrology Volume 1 #1, 2016], there are clear precedents for some of his concepts in the writings of astrologers of the 1970s. For example, in Chapter 12 of his book ‘Astrology: Evolution and Revolution’ (1976), the late Alan Oken sets out (pp. 87-92) three basic types of evolution of soul consciousness: tribal, individual, and cosmic. This seems to be the blueprint for Jeffrey Wolf Green’s system of defining people’s state of consciousness in the first edition of his book ‘Pluto: the Evolutionary Journey of the Soul Volume 1’ (1985). It is also notable that Ray Merriman was the first astrologer to author and publish a book called ‘Evolutionary Astrology’, in 1977.
This is a relatively short, niche booklist, chiefly because of how recently the concept of evolutionary astrology was introduced, but there may be other relevant titles we don’t have yet in the library, and there are certainly other titles by Steven Forrest that do not specifically mention evolutionary astrology in their titles but that are likely to be of relevance.
