Bibliography of Locational Astrology

Although many old astrological textbooks contain some traditional rules guiding where to live, this bibliography is limited to dedicated books on the topic of locational astrology, multiple systems relating to which were introduced during the 20th century, including but not limited to Astro*Carto*Graphy.

This select bibliography includes books that predate the ACG concept and that therefore offer valuable historical context for it as well as systems that are different in their technical details.

The library does not hold absolutely every book on this topic. If you are aware of one you think it should have that is missing from this shortlist, please do get in touch with your recommendations, and I’ll look into it.

If wishing to cite this select bibliography itself, please link to its web URL and do not copy and paste it to other online locations or publications – a lot of work goes into cataloguing these books, and all rights are reserved.

Thank you,
Philip Graves, May 16th, 2025

[1] The date of the second edition is given by the DNB (which lacks the first) as 1987. Some libraries record a date of 1989 for the third edition, suggesting that possibly the present 1990 printing is a second issue. One library uncertainly claims a date of “c. 1986” for an unspecified edition. It is not apparent from any library records when the first edition appeared

[2] The main part of this work, from pp. 135-341, consists of annotated mundane horoscopes for the countries of the world. The earlier part appears to present a system of local space astrology based on planets’ governance of different regions when they are in different signs

[3] But this refers to original printing; advertising at rear for services of Astro Numeric Service mentioning President Reagan’s rule in the past tense indicates this is a much later undeclared reprint, probably late 1980s

[4] A German translation of the above. For the 1990 reprint, see under revised author attribuition of Lewis, Jim, below

[5] Credited on the title page as: “Discoverer of the celestial coordinates of geographic longitudes as projected in his Star Map, “The World and The Heavens”; author of the “Cyclic Locality Dial,” a statistical presentation of the Map; “Kabbalism of American History,” many magazine articles, and the extension course of study “Geographic Astrology”

[6] Credited in print “Compiled and published by Paul Counsil, New York, copyright 1933” to upper margin. It is stated in the text as having been previously published in that year. I could not find any indication that it was supposed to be issued with this book, although that seems possible and logical

[7] After the original edition of 1935, by the same publisher

[8] Partial typescript only towards an unpublished expanded third edition of this book, whose preface is dated May 1947. The typescript includes the introductory material, Chapters I-VI, and Chapter VIII only out of a projected 19 chapters and five appendices

[9] Interally, a monochrome facsimile reproduction of the Second Edition Revised (originally published by the Astro-Guidance Educational Society, Los Angeles, 1938), with Darr’s added preliminaries. See above for the original edition

[10] This is limited to the U.S.A.

[11] After the first printing earlier the same year

[12] Onto the final leaf has been affixed the author’s address label, whose address component reads Matrix UK, Low Greenfield, Nr. Buckden, Skipton, North Yorks

[13] After the original edition of 1998

[14] A combined reprint, reset in compact print type, of four of Jayne’s originally A4-sized typescript works. Horoscope Interpretation Outlined is reproduced from the second edition of 1977 (c.f. the standalone 1970 edition below). The foreword to Introduction to Locality Astrology is dated 1978.  The source edition for Parallels: Their Hidden Meaning is undated. The introduction to source edition for The Technique of Rectification is dated 1974 (c.f. the standalone edition of 1970 below)

[15] Vivia Jayne’s foreword is dated May 1995, suggesting that this is the original printing thus of this compendium of books originally separately published by the Astrological Bureau in the 1970s

[16] Appears an unaltered reprint of the 1929 edition

[17] After the original 1981 edition of Bishof’s German translation. For the 1981 edition and the original English-language edition, see under Anonymous (16) above

[18] Transcribed from a recording of Jim Lewis’s ACG Certification Workshop #2, held in September, 1993, onto seven tapes

[19] Comprises an index to the charts at the back of the volume; a 1-page bibliography for locational astrology books; a shortlist of “Fifteen techniques for Interpreting Astro*Carto*Graphy maps”; and a double-sided leaf of “Frequently Asked Questions About Astro*Carto*Graphy” written by Ken Irving; an advertising flyer for ACG certification examinations; a suggested curriculum for the Level 1 Astro*Carto*Graphy Proficiency examination; a list of related services and archives offered by Continuum; and an Astro Numeric Service flyer for Astro*Carto*Graphy-related products and services

[20] A German translation of the below

[21] This set of studies groups its subjects into the following nine categories: Activists; Spiritual Pioneers; Entertainers; Musicians and Artists; Writers; Politicians; Explorers, Adventurers and Sports Champions; Miscellaneous Personalities and Entrepreneurs; Nations and Events. To each category is devoted a separate chapter introduced by a title page on grey paper. Every other page in each chapter is an Astro*Carto*Graphy graph relating to the individual subject under discussion on the facing page

[22] Dated 1997, but this may relate only to the 1st impression

[23] This volume teaches Astro*Carto*Graphy with the aid of eighteen detailed case studies of mostly famous individuals and mundane events, and additionally twelve of the author’s personal life experiences. The many unnumbered pages in the book are a combination of Astro*Garto*Graphy graphs and tabulated data, typically occurring in different orders and mixtures in different places. In view of the already exceptionally convoluted pagination scheme to this volume making any additional breakdown of these pages liable to impede a clear vision of the outline of the book structure, I have not been more specific except in the few instances where the pages between numbered pages are only graphs

[24] After the original printing of 1995

[25] Library records give 1925

[26] A straight-forward facsimile of the original Foulsham edition, q. v. above, with reduced margins

[27] A facsimile reprint of the original CPA Press edition, q. v. above

[28] After the original edition of 2006.

[29] This is dated ‘March 2011; Revised September 2016’

[30] However, this may be signed in print, since numerous other annotations in the same red ink have been made within the contents, and they are presumed those of the author, and in print

[31] The date of the original edition is given as 1977
