Bibliography of the Great Ages in Astrology
Few astrological concepts are less precisely drawn with regularity than that of the Great Ages, also known as the Precessional Ages. Properly, these refer to the time periods during which the vernal point is found in each of the twelve signs of the sidereal zodiac. Thus, they are an inherently siderealist astrological concept that bears no connection to the principles of tropical astrology. A common error of reason to which many fall prey is to connect the Ages of Pisces and Aquarius respectively with meanings associated with the signs of the tropical zodiac called Pisces and Aquarius, which is manifestly irrational when these ages refer only to the sidereal zodiac.
There is an abundance of book titles making vague allusions to a New Age, only some of which are astrological in theme, and even the astrological ones do not usually explore the astronomical observations at the root of the concept.
In an attempt to go some way towards separating the wheat from the chaff, I have therefore divided this select bibliography into two parts, of which the first features specific references either to the Aquarian or the Piscean Age or to the phenomenon of precession and the Great Ages in astrology; the second group features allusions to the New Age concept but without necessarily being astrologically specific on this point. This division may seem somewhat arbitrary ultimately, because even some of the books that specifically reference the Aquarian Age are paying little more than lip service to the concept as a catch-all for a modern esoteric way of thinking. Individual titles can give an idea of what to expect, but there is ultimately no substitute for the careful investigation of the contents of each book.
Not included here are manuals of sidereal astrology, many of which also incidentally explain the astronomical concept of the precession of the equinoxes.
For the benefit of those who do not read French or German, Verseau and Wassermann are the respective words in each language for Aquarius. Interest in the Aquarian Age has certainly not been confined to English-speaking astrologers.
If wishing to cite this select bibliography itself, please link to its web URL and do not copy and paste it to other online locations or publications – a lot of work goes into cataloguing these books, and all rights are reserved.
Thank you,

[1] Possibly the work of Gustave-Lambert Brahy, who is recorded as having been the director of the course in advertising from 1939, though it might have been partly or wholly drafted by others working for his institute.
[2] No earlier than 1937, this being the date of an example nativity
[3] DNB gives 1948. This copy includes advertisements for slightly later issues in the series and must have been bound up in the early-mid 1950s
[4] A later issue of the above, as shown by the revised front cover title and binding format and by the advertising to the inside of the rear cover spanning Sonderdruck 1-46 of the series
[4a] Library records give 1945
[5] A brief critique of the premature popular talk of the Age of Aquarius, arguing on strictly astronomical grounds that it will not in fact begin until 2160 A.D.
[6] The copyright is dated 1970 but credited to Western Publishing Company, Inc.. According to online records, this in fact is the same company as Golden Press, under a different name. No further date is listed, and no earlier edition is found in Worldcat. This therefore appears to be the first edition despite the confused use of multiple publisher names
[7] The author of this publication is not personally credited, and it might be a collective effort or might be the work of just one of the leaders of the organisation such as for example André Barbault, but kept anonymous in the interest of a collectively identified combined literary output for the Centre International d’Astrologie
[7a] After the original edition of 1968
[7b] The original copyright date is given as 1995
[8] A collection of thirteen essays by the author, nine of the first ten of which are specified as being reprinted from various issues of astrological magazines in which they originally appeared, specifically the Journal of Geocosmic Research; Kosmos; Cosmecology Bulletin; and Astrology Now. One other is from a lecture given by Hand to the NCGR Research meeting in New York City on November 30th, 1973. The final three are previously unpublished.
[9] Copyrighted 1982, but this is an undeclared later printing of the original Para Research edition of 1982
[9a] Believed to be a paper presented at the Welt-Kongress “Kosmos und Mensch” / World-Congress ”Cosmos and Man” that took place at Aalen, Germany, from 13th to 22nd August 1971, with whose programme it was retained
[9b] A discussion of the Great Ages and the precession of the equinoxes
[10] A hand-inked note to the upper margin of the first page suggests it may be a part of an astrological periodical published in March / April of 1950
[11] After the original Esandess edition of 1970, q. v. above
[12] This refers back to the original Uranus-Verlag edition of 1937, q. v. above
[13] The publication credits imply that this title has been selected from one already in print, and that this is the first paperback edition; but the original publication details are not provided, and no evidence can be found in library records of the source, or indeed of any earlier printed book by Oken. A compilation of previously published magazine articles would be one possibility
[14] The content of this edition appears identical to that of the 1971 edition featured under the title without ‘Star’ above
[15] Suggested 1944 or 1946 by COPAC, with the latter appearing more definite
[16] The author’s full name is given on the copyright page as Susan B. Rosenberg
[17] After the original 1958 edition published by O. W. Barth of München
[18] An adaptation of the author’s Ph.D. thesis awarded at the University of the West of England in 2004
[19] A reprint of the 2000 edition, q.v. above
[20] Presumed early 2000s
[21] The impression number and date are only apparent from the catch-date on the last page of the index at the end. After the 1st of 1972 of this, the declared ‘first American edition of ‘Birth Patterns for a New Humanity’, q.v. below
[22] After the original printing of 1984
[23] A compilation under one binding of seven otherwise separately issued (and separately paginated) chiefly historically focused articles by the author, together with one by Luke Andrews, as shown
[24] The component articles are given their own separate histories as shown
