N. Fowler & Co. | 1914 | £125 | The only volume to appear in this series. Leo probably had more planned, but died before they could be implemented. Complete in [vi] + 78 pp. + [pp. ix-xxii of advertisements] | ASSOCIATION COPY. Original small-format deep blue cloth in near-fine condition for age, with minimal rubbing to extremities of spine and outer corners of boards, and traces to bottom edges of boards and outer edge of front board if you look really closely. This copy with the neatly printed small original address label of notable Californian mundane astrological journal editor Howard V. Herndon to front paste-down. Herndon launched and was editor of the rare monthly Practical Astrology from 1924 for about nine years. Another name plain-pencilled to ffep. Early publisher’s revised white-on-red small circular imperial price sticker with serrated edges, reading 1/6, to title page over the top of original printed price of ‘One Shilling’. Binding mildly stained at junction between pp. 16 and 17 but cords holding. A few tiny traces of ink stains to rear endpapers. No deliberate previous-owner markings or other faults found. Overall, an exemplary copy of the rare first edition with added interest to American collectors from its past ownership and probable resale by Howard V. Herndon. |
