Description
| hb | [Barley, Alfred] & [Wemyss, Maurice] | [Alan Leo’s Astrological Manuals No. 11:] A Thousand and One Notable Nativities – “The Astrologer’s ‘Who’s Who’, bound with More Notable Nativities | Combined bound photocopy | No publisher | n.d. | £10 | Undated combined bound photocopy, presumed after 1960. A Thousand and One Notable Nativities is from the L. N. Fowler 3rd Edition. [7 single-sided leaves] + [single-sided leaves 1-130] + [8 single-sided leaves of advertisements. More Notable Nativities is from the Modern Astrology Office edition of 1933. [4 single-sided leaves including Erich von Beckerath’s bookplate] + [single-sided leaves 7-39] + [2 single-sided leaves of original owner’s manuscript astrological notes] | Custom brown quarter-cloth with marbled paper-covered boards in fine condition. Deliberately bound as a study and reference copy by the previous owner, the late German astrologer Heinz Specht, from whose posthumous estate sale this volume came. Blue-inked library classification notes to rear paste-down, possibly in Specht’s own hand. Otherwise internally fine. It would appear from the reproduction of notable German astrologer Erich von Beckerath’s bookplate at the start of More Notable Nativities that the original 1933 volume from which that part of this custom volume was copied was originally a part of his collection. |
