Book was first published in Dutch before being translated into German and English. This translation by G. Coba. Copyrighted 1917. This may or may not be the first impression: various different cover designs were produced, without internal distinguishing marks. | Original full cloth in near-fine condition, with gilt titling and elaborate star-shaped gilt zodiacal illustration within gilt border to front board still bright and strong; likewise gilt titling to spine. Plain-pencilled bookseller notes to front endpapers. No permanent markings found. Only fault is liquid-stain to upper-outer margins, starting minimally around p. 97 and increasing progressively by the end of the book: probably a coffee spill. It mainly crosses page numbers, but just touches text from p. 181 to 212 approx. and from pp. 255-7. Upper outer corners of the worse-affected pages slightly taut; otherwise, it’s just minor cosmetic damage to an otherwise excellent original example of this book. Condition factored into price |
