All original Church of Light black cloth editions are now rare and highly sought after. | Original full black cloth in near-fine condition, with traces of slight discoloration to parts of boards. Gilt titling to front board and spine slightly faded but still clear. Internally, some scuffing and tape residue staining to both front and rear paste-downs from removal of something formally pasted there – perhaps a makeshift dust jacket? Ffep with Auckland-based bookshop stamp and minor tape-residue staining in outline. Rear fep with very minor tape residue staining in outline. Liquid-spill stain to upper-outer margin of p. [33] seems to have soaked through to a diminishing degree to the next 200 or so pages, and has left the paper in this area visibly rippled and taut to turn, especially in the earlier pages affected by the liquid spill, though the effect is increasingly localised to the upper outer margin by the end of the book. This is the one major fault to this otherwise attractive antiquarian copy, which leaves it overall only a fair copy, although the outside is excellent and the inside is free from permanent previous owner markings.
