hb Keskar, Govind H. Combined Introductory Astrology (Indian and European) 1st Printed at the Indu Prakash Steam Press, Thakurdwar, Bombay 1909 £100 First edition. Foulsham (UK distributor’s) address label adhered to lower margin of title page. Original full blue cloth in good antiquarian condition for age, with horizontal split in cloth a few mm below top of spine, separation to bottom 2 cm of rear spine hinge, with visible surface rubbing along rest of same; fraying to cloth at extremities of spine, moderate wear to cloth over lower outer corners of boards, and light rubbing to some edges; some staining to boards and darkening to spine, whose title has faded. Front paste-down with small patch of surface paper loss to inner margin; rear paste-down with two similar small patches where paper has peeled back. The internal binding remains solid and the paper mostly remarkably clean and white for its age, with very occasional traces of mild ink-staining, e.g. to pp. 255, 259 and 339, and to the blank verso to p. 359. Light plain-pencilled notes to endpapers and to lower margins of p. [1] and p. 289. Two addresses on the advertising matter to pp. 354-5 have been struck through with three diagonal red lines each, presumably by the publisher as they were no longer valid. No other permanent previous owner markings found. 5mm closed tear spotted to top edge of leaf comprising pp. 111-112. Externally good; internally near-fine. Overall, a very good copy of this rare very early book teaching the techniques of Vedic astrology in combination with those of western astrology to English-speaking students.
