Original full red cloth in vgc, with moderate wear to foot of rear spine hinge, light fraying to tops of spine hinges and light wear to lower outer corners of boards, else near-fine. Decorative endpapers, as issued. Inner hinges intact. Periphery of rear endpapers mildy stained red, suggesting a possible past water spill to the rear board having transferred a hint of its colour to the rear endpapers. There are trace-effects to the outer margins of the last leaf of the table of contents [pp. 771-2], which also has two tiny (1-2mm) tears to its bottom edge, and to the very bottom edges of both leaves of the table of contents. Ffep with plain-pencilled price and number; plain-pencilled initials to p. 772. No other markings or faults found. Still a vgc copy overall of the scarce first edition
