hb/dj Fuller, Jean Overton Horoscope for a Double Agent (“Gilbert”) 1st The Author 1961 £175 Distributed by L. N. Fowler & Co. Ltd., Stuart House, 1 Tudor Street, London E.C.4 Original full blue cloth in near-fine condition for age, with just a trace of rubbing and sun-fading to extremities of spine. Gilt titling remains bright and strong. In internally repaired good+ dj, which has lost smallish triangular chips from the upper inner corners of both main panels, and has moderate rubbing along flap-folds and slight rubbing and creasing to extremities of spine, but has newly been carefully repaired on the inside with white archival tissue to resist further tearing and losses at vulnerable extremities; traces of scuffing to front and rear dj flaps. Front paste-down with traces of scuffing and staining to parts of upper and lower margins from removal of former tape there. Plain-pencilled annotation to table of contents to add to the list of indexed topical references. Occasional other plain-pencilled marks to main text pages, mostly marginal and all faint and erasable. No permanent previous owner markings found. Page-margins lightly browned in places, with occasional hints of foxing, commensurate with the age of the book and the quality of paper used. The photographic portrait of the author that is bound in before p. 325 is in excellent condition, although the original owner had written a critical comment about the photograph in plain pencil beneath, which was later partly erased and could be more fully erased. Overall, a near-excellent copy of this rare book, in good+ dj, which rarely survives at all.
