Ltd., Publishers, 10 & 11, Red Lion Court, Fleet Street, E.C. 4, London 1927 £125   Original large-format full blue cloth in good overall condition, with its main fault being splitting to cloth down lower three-sevenths (approx.) of rear spine hinge – see gallery picture of rear board. This apart, it is very good for its age. Moderate rubbing to extremities of spine; heavier wear to cloth over three of the four outer corners of boards. Gilt titling to front board mostly still strong, with some patches of slight fading; to spine, likewise. Ffep with small blue-pencilled signature to upper margin, and old plain-pencilled price alongside. Inner paper hinge following first ffep strained, but underlying webbing intact. Second ffep with 8mm tear to bottom edge. Inner paper hinge before second rear free endpaper split down its whole length, with about half of the underlying webbing still intact but the rest split. This hinge is holding as a whole for now, but will eventually need repair, e.g. with hinge tape. Plain-pencilled marginal word to p. 9. Faint trace of ink staining to upper outer margin of p. 209, and very occasional minor thumbing or faint ink smudges, but a generally clean copy, with no deliberate permanent markings found to any printed page. Despite the structural weaknesses noted above, this remains a good copy overall of a very rare and sought after first edition. Frailties factored into price
