Original full blue-grey cloth in vgc, with rubbing to extremities of spine and outer corners of boards. In most of original dj, which is in poor condition, having lost much of the lower half of its spine; and bears a two-inch tear to the top of the front spine hinge, and minor chipping to top of spine and of flap-folds. Front paste-down with attractive pictorial original owner’s bookplate. Ffep with pictorial address label of more recent owner Carole Devine. Half-title page with author’s hand-inked presentation note to the first owner, dated 9/19/53. No other internal markings or faults found. The first edition is rare and highly prized, and even more so in this signed condition, in spite of the defective condition of the original dust jacket.
