Cosmic Influences on Human Behaviour 1st Stein and Day, New York 1973 £30   Original turquoise quarter-cloth with gilt titling to spine, and and orange textured paper-covered boards with gilt print of author’s signature to front board, as issued. Cloth in vgc for age, with moderate rubbing to extremities of spine, light rubbing to the inner parts of bottom edges of boards, and slight blotchiness to parts of spine surface (as pictured). Covered part of boards near-fine. In vgc- black and green publisher’s dj with light chipping to top of rear spine hinge, extending to a closed tear towards top of same; moderate rubbing to tops of flap-folds, top of spine and parts of top edge of rear panel; and light creasing to upper inner margin of rear panel. This dj nested within secondary promotional yellow outer dj, which is in only fair condition, with heavy chipping to bottom of spine and lower inner margin of front panel; moderate chipping to tops of spine hinges; tearing to top inch and bottom 3 cm of rear flap-fold; three-inch closed tear to top edge of rear panel; and large splash stain to upper half of rear panel, with traces extending beyond this to upper inner margin of front panel. Thus, the outer dj is somewhat unsightly and could be discarded if unwanted, although it has thus far helped to protect the inner one, which looks much fresher. Early owner’s presentation note, dated October 3, 1975, to ffep. The printed pages are almost all free from markings, with a few exceptions, as follows: a little blue-inked underlining to pp. 11, 14 and 167; and tabulation sheet on p. 267 has been filled with blue-inked crosses and scores as directed by the instructions at the top of the page. Corrected dog-ears to upper outer corners of leaves comprising pp. 125-6 and 143-4. Occasional traces of light foxing to page margins. Overall, a vgc- copy of the sought-after first edition in like dj, with fair outer dj.
