Publisher’s original wave-patterned full blue cloth in near-fine condition, with gilt titling to front board still strong and bright; only minimal traces of rubbing to top of spine and tips of outer corners. In fragile original dj in fair condition, chipped and torn at head of spine, and lightly chipped at foot of spine and to extremities of flap-folds, with 1.2 cm tear and creasing to lower margin of rear cover, but all print to both main panels and flaps still intact, and author name to spine only slightly affected by adjacent chipping. This copy formerly owned by Harriet K. Banes (1861-1959), erstwhile President of the First Temple and College of Astrology in Los Angeles, California, with her hand-pencilled name to ffep, which also bears an early, neatly printed green address sticker of the First Temple and College of Astrology. P. 16 with tiny marginal ink stain and short plain-pencilled marginal bracket. No other markings or faults found. An excellent copy of the first edition in rare original dust jacket and with added historical value from its past ownership by one of the pioneering American astrology teachers of the early 20th century (see entry on her by Holden & Hughes in Astrological Pioneers in America). |
