After the original edition of 1935 | Original large-format full red cloth in near-fine condition for age, with very light rubbing to extremities of spine and lower outer corners of boards. Illustrated silver titling to front board and spine remains strong and bright; likewise silver titling and emblem to spine. Two tiny bumps to top edge of rear board. Top edge of page block dyed red, as issued. In mylar-protected good+ original dj, which has a 3 cm vertical tear and some creasing to lower inner margin of front panel, short tear with some adjacent scuffing to upper inner margin of front panel, light chipping and creasing to foot of spine, and moderate chipping to tops of spine hinges; light chipping to most extremities of flap-folds; short line of black-ink staining to part of spine, which nonetheless is unusually free from colour-fading for its age. Minor staining to lower margin of front paste-down. Endpapers slightly toned or age-spotted. Ffep with former owner’s black-inked name and date of 1945. Tiny old New York bookshop sticker to rear paste-down lower margin. From the back of the book, one of the dials and the last of the eight leaves of horoscope blanks have been cut out as directed, retained loose within; the loose Horoscope Blank has plain-pencilled birth chart notes to one side. No previous owner markings found on any of the bound-in pages. A few minor dog-ears to lower outer corners from pp. 79-88. Overall, an excellent copy of the first edition, in good+ dj. |
