Foulsham & Co., 5 Pilgrim Street, E.C., London | n.d. | £75 | Library records give 1914 for the original edition, which is supported by the publisher address here | Orignial full red cloth in exceptionally fine condition for age, with no colour-fading and almost no wear: only a hint to cloth over upper outer corner of rear board. Gilt titling and diagram to front board strong and bright. An early owner has reproduced the gilt diagram in plain pencil, with planetary glyphs added, to the ffep, indicating an earnest attempt to study it. Plain-pencilled numbers to upper margins of front paste-down and ffep. Fairly frequent plain-pencilled underlinings, marginal brackets and / or astrological annotations in main text pages. Red-pencilled marginal bracket to p. 48; 1 possibly grey-inked annotation (or could be strong plain pencil) to table to p. 55. No other permanent marks or faults found. A stunning copy externally of the rare first impression. It has clearly been quite well-studied inside but remains exceptionally fine on the shelves. |
