This copy with errata slip bound in before p. 1. | Original full blue patterned cloth with rich gilt illustration to front board; gilt titling to front board and spine. Gilt titling and illustration to front board are exceptionally bright and strong for their age. Spine cloth relatively sun-faded, with partial fading of some characters of the gilt titling but still mostly intact. Inner and upper-inner margins of rear board also somewhat sun-faded to cloth. Moderate rubbing to extremities of spine, along spine hinges, and to outer corners, with light rubbing to top and bottom edges. Internally, an excellent copy, with no permanent markings found, and binding remaining strong throughout. Plain-pencilled bookseller number to front paste-down. Small plain-pencilled sum to recto of initial advertising leaf. Tiny plain-pencilled mark to upper inner margin of p. 1. Light foxing to some pages, mostly marginal. Overall, a vgc+ copy of the rare and highly sought-after true first edition |
