Description
| booklet | Davidson, Dr. W. M. | Astrology – Science or Superstition? | 1st | Human Science Research Publishing Co., Chicago, Ill. | 1936 | £350 | The very rare first edition of this early book by Davidson, who went on to become one of the 20th century’s most famous medical astrology writers. The title is identical that of a famous book by Eysenck and Nias from 1982, and would appear to have presaged it 46 years ahead of time. Complete in [1 leaf] + [2] + [2 leaves] + [pp. v-vi] + 32 + [1 page of advertisements] | Original green textured card covers in vgc for age, with light rubbing along spine and light wear to outer corners; two short tears to outer edge of rear cover where it overhangs the page block; light browning to periphery of front cover, and a few patches of deeper browning to margins of rear cover. The seven silver stars on the front cover are somewhat age-faded but still sparkle slightly when the book is held up to the light. A former owner has pasted identical-looking slender pieces of ruled blank paper onto the insides of both covers and the upper margins of the front and rear free endpapers. All four pieces of paper are about an inch tall and have become slightly stained but have no writing on them. Tiny trace of staining to lower margin of p. 28, but no markings or significant faults found to any printed page. Externally very good; internally near-fine. Overall, a vgc+ copy of one of the rarest and earliest astrology books by Dr. William M. Davidson. Not in Worldcat |
