Basic Bibliography of Astrological Pluto
This select bibliography is chiefly limited to books whose titles specifically mention Pluto, with a small handful of others on the outer planets that include significant treatments of Pluto thrown in. Thus, it makes no pretensions to being a complete bibliography of astrological books that treat of Pluto as part of a wider treatment of other astrological topics, and nor does it cover journal articles on astrological Pluto. It is not a critical bibliography and makes no claims or representations as to the quality or usefulness of the writing in each of the sources alphabetically listed. But it is hoped to serve as a useful starting point for research for anyone wishing to write about astrological Pluto who is minded to cite past published books on the topic.
While some books on astrological Pluto are common and well-known, others have become extremely scarce and in some cases sought after to the point of trading second-hand for what might be considered ‘silly money’. If you look around for second-hand copies of the scarcer out-of-print titles listed here, this phenomenon will soon become apparent to you. I won’t even mention the usual suspects here, because that will only tend to further intensify their scarcity and increase their already high prices.
If wishing to cite this select bibliography itself, please link to its web URL and do not copy and paste it to other online locations or publications – a lot of work goes into cataloguing these books, and all rights are reserved.
Thank you,
Philip Graves, May 8th, 2025

Ziegler, A. M., Director, Miami Astrological Society, Inc. ‘Pluto in the Twelve Signs and Houses’ No publisher or place clearly stated, undated[63]. Original thin card covers. Staplebound pamphlet. [1] + [pp. 2-24]
[1] Presumed 1940s
[2] No authorship is stated at the beginning of this text, but the end is labelled in print ‘Notes from Grace Ellery Williams’, indicating that it may be a transcript of notes taken by a student from a lecture delivered by Williams
[3] DNB gives 1948
[4] Internal reference to Joseph Campbell’s ‘Hero With a Thousand Faces’ places the date no earlier than 1972
[5] Estimated 2000s
[6] Lacking No. 3. The series of fifteen publications collectively is the most basic tier of three series of publications in the full tiered course
[7] After the first edition of Baum’s translation, published August 11, 1966, of the original German edition of 1935 shown above
[8] Worldcat records 1962
[9] Worldcat records 1962, which is presumed correct for both forms of the binding in which the book was offered
[10] From A.F.S.A. Bulletin, August 1943
[11] Appears extracted from the original serialisation of Baum’s translation of Brunhubner’s book, which was first serialised in the A.F.S.A. Bulletin. Chapter X is here held in two copies and is noted on one to be from the A.F.S.A. Bulletin, September 1943. The pagination and typesetting differ slightly from that on the 1971 A.F.A. edition, with more lines per page found here, although the font is the same
[12] From A. F. S. A. Bulletin, November 1943
[13] Appears extracted from an undated issue of the A.F.S.A. Bulletin within 1943
[14] From AF.S.A. Bulletin, April, 1944
[15] From Astrological Review, July-August 1953. On a then recently-published artwork by Salvador Dali called ‘Cross of Peace’.
[16] Hand-dated in plain-pencil to an unclear-to-read month in 1944; presumed from the A.F.S.A. Bulletin
[17] From A.F.S.A Bulletin, December 1943
[18] From Astrological Review, April, 1953 and July-August 1953
[19] From Astrological Review, November, 1951
[20] From A.F.A. Bulletin, August, 1950
[21] Appears to be from the A.F.S.A. Bulletin, September 1944
[21a] Internally, stated first printing, 1992, but this copy has a later Unibind.com binding and must therefore be a later printing, probably late 1990s or early 2000s
[22] After the original edition copyrighted 1965
[23] After the original edition of 1965, q. v. above, which at the time of publication was billed as the first volume in a multi-volume work, but no further volumes appeared
[24] A reprint of the original Llewellyn edition of 2009, q. v.
[25] A facsimile of the original Llewellyn edition of 1985, with added introductions by Wolfe and Deva Green
[26] In this edition, the subtitle appears on the front cover but not on the internal title page
[27] A reproduction of the original Llewellyn edition of 1997, with added dedication by Deva Green
[27a] Although the title of this book does not mention Pluto, two chapters within it, spanning pp. 36-88, are focused upon astrological Pluto: ‘2. Fate and Pluto’ and ‘3. The Astrological Pluto’
[27b] After the first printing of 1983
[28] A collection of 30 essays by different authors including James Hillman and Rob Brezsny. Also includes brief extracts from Fritz Brunhubner’s book on Pluto, falsely dated by the editor to 1930
[29] This copy, purchased at a bargain new-book price in 2016, is presumed to have failed a quality assessment off the production line thanks to the somewhat damaged front cover, but is internally fine
[30] After the first edition of 1971, second of 1975 and third of 1981
[31] Copyrighted 1971, but this copy is almost certainly an undeclared later reprint
[32] It seems possible that Louise Jones was a daughter, niece or cousin of Marc Edmund Jones, though this would have to be confirmed by sources in the know. His mother’s middle name was Louise but she had died in his youth, decades before this book was published. There are a few other books in this collection bearing her name, which I have not noted, since it did not occur to me at the time of cataloguing them that there might be a connection with him. But the added handwritten note in his hand in this copy strongly suggests one
[33] After the earlier printings of 1941, 1961, 1967 and 1969. Main inner contents appear to be an unaltered reproduction of those of the 1941 edition
[34] On Copy A, the word ‘Sidereal’ has been penned in by hand on both the front cover and the inner title page, apparently by the author, who refers to the volume by the full title including ‘Sidereal’ in his list of other works in ‘Modern Aspects’, q. v. above
[35] After original printing of 1973
[36] The author, a female, is described as a “student and disciple”, under the guidance and tutorship of Prince Tuala Tamalelagi, of Samoa” in the foreword. It would appear possible that she was also at some stage his wife in the light of evidence (see entry for “Star Symphony” under Tamalelagi below) that she took his name
[37] The work appears self-published, but a printed label adhered to the lower margin of the title page identifies the distributor: ‘Sold by Church of Light’
[38] The transcript of the text for part of a lecture on the outer planets previously delivered by Marks at the ARC Conference in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and at a workshop at Redwing Bookstore in Cambridge, Massachusetts
[39] Reprinted from the original edition of 1935, q. v. above
[40] Dated 1952, but this copy includes advertising extending to Nr. 46 in the series, suggesting a later date of printing or at least binding. The spine title is in typescript, showing that it is earlier than the issue listed beneath, although the advertising to the inside of the rear cover is the same in both cases
[41] A later issue of the above. In this case, the title and number are professionally printed to the spine, a feature of much later issues in the series. The only other difference is that the advertisement on the rear cover of the earlier issue has been removed
[42] This address has been lined through where printed, and replaced in the preface with a purple stamp reading ‘Mrs. Ada Muir, 21074 – 40th Rural Route No. 2, Langley, B. C.’
[43] After original printing of 1932, q. v. above
[44] DNB records give 1938
[45] No other date is given, and there is no evidence that this is a later printing
[46] This copy hand-dated 4-24-71 to upper margin of front page
[47] Worldcat gives 1979
[48] Dated 1989, but this the date of the first printing. This copy was purchased new no earlier than 1996
[49] Reset from the original Arkana / Penguin edition of 1989, q. v.
[50] This edition was evidently extended by an anonymous author working for Foulsham to include references to Pluto, which had not been discovered before Sepharial’s death. The preface is much abbreviated compared with editions published in Sepharial’s lifetime, and altered to include a reference to the discovery of Pluto in 1930, yet still credited to Sepharial
[51] The first printing of the revised edition was 1903, also published by Nichols. At a later stage, Foulsham took over the publication in the UK of the revised edition in a number of undated printings. The printing dates of the equivalent American edition published by David McKay Company, q.v. below, are also not apparent.
[52] Internally, appears an exact reproduction of the edition of 1962, but with completely redesigned dust jacket
[53] On this edition, the Astrologische Universal-Harmonien series title is omitted from the title page, but I have included it for cataloguing purposes for ready cross-referencing with other titles in the series
[54] Appears translated from the original French edition entitled ’Astrologie Expérimentale Document 1’, published at Lausanne in the same year (1961), q.v.. The German edition was also the first of two planned volumes in its own short series, of which the second never appeared. It was to have been called ‘Erforschung der Tierkreiszeichen: Die Fische und der Skorpion vom Standpunkt der Planeten aus gesehen, die über diese Zeichen herrschen. – Entdeckung der Funktion des Planeten Pluto – Die inneren und die äußeren Planeten – Planeten der Persönlichkeit und Planeten der Kollektivität’, according to the advertisement for it on p. [6]
[55] Presumed early-mid 1970s originally, although this printing may possibly be later in view of the binding with two volumes in one
[56] The author and editor credits for the 3. Teil are identical to those for the 2. Teil, so I have not repeated them
[57] Presumed early-mid 1970s originally, although this printing may possibly be later in view of the binding with two volumes in one
[58] BL gives 1954-5 for the edition contemporaneous with the other books advertised at the back of this copy, but comments that the original edition of the present title was published in 1949
[59] A later reprint of the above, presumed around 1965
[60] The second printing and first in a single volume of the fourth edition, after the original printing of 1947 in ten separate fascicules, according to the foreword by Ludwig Rudolph. Lefeldt’s introduction, however, is dated 1946
[61] Of the early-issue stock with rounded corners and no Roman numeral identifier to the spine
[62] This copy clearly a late printing, as evidenced by the separate overall title page with ISBN number printed on it, and the advertisements at the end of the volume
[63] The author signs his work in print with the address of the Miami Astrological Society, which is given as Professional Building, Miami, Florida, and this can reasonably be taken as the publisher address in the absence of another. For the date, OCLC / Worldcat suggests 1934 tentatively, but does not give the exact same version of the title. The first advertisement for a version of Ziegler’s booklet that I’ve been able to find to date is in the January-March, 1935 issue of the Astrological Bulletina, which however names it “The Planet Pluto” and describes it as having 12 pages, whereas this edition extends to 24, strongly suggesting that the edition listed in early 1935 is a more primitive edition. In issues of the Bulletina after mid-1936, such as those in 1937, there are no signs of advertising for any edition of Ziegler’s brochure, but there is other advertising for a magazine run by him. It would seem possible that he could have released the extended edition at any time in the late 1930s or early 1940s, if indeed it was not the original version whose title and page count has simply been sloppily misrepresented by Llewellyn George
