[2] An historically focused work, as the title suggests. About the author, nothing is said. There is no indication given that she is / was an academic, although the work is source-referenced in a scholarly manner.

[2a] A series of publications collectively edited at this time by Steven Engler, Richard King, Kocku von Stuckrad and Gerard Wiegers

[2b] A collection of ten studies by different scholars, including three by Sørensen and one by Petersen, together with a lengthy introduction by the editors

[2e] Copyrighted 2021 and with the catch-date for the second impression agreeing and matching the purchase date of this copy, which was bought in August 2021 and is therefore presumed the second printing after the first earlier in the same year

[3] An index of birth data for studies featured in the magazine Meridian between 1979 and 1986, indicating the date of birth of many named individuals, and the year and issue number corresponding to the articles discussing them.

[4] Specht informs Rodden that the date of birth listed for Martin Luther in her book “Astro-Data II” is false, and goes on to offer various slightly different birth times for Luther suggested by the astrologers Cardan, Garcaeus, Giuntini, Rinehold Ebertin, Bruno Huber, and Melanchton.

[5] A previous owner has marked the entries in this list with red lines and circular stickers, indicating an astrological study interest in the events and their causes

[6] Described on the title page as “Bible Expositor” for “The Word of Grace”

[7] A paperback reprint of the edition first published by Victor Gollanz in 2000, which seems itself also to have been a paperback.

[9] The present volume is a transcription of the Sanskrit source text, based on the Kathmandu transcript in the Sylvain Lévi collection at the Sorbonne, with scholarly apparatus showing variant readings in different manuscripts. The original source text is dated by Pingree to C.E. 269/270, and is said to itself have been a versified version of a lost prose translation made by a Yavanesvara in C.E. 149/150 from a lost Greek original text.

[10] This volume comprises translation (pp. 1-191) and commentary (pp. 195-491) plus indices

[11] The pseudonym of an unidentified author

[12] Said to be the expanded second annual edition of this work. The contents in practice are a combination of astrological horse racing information to page 85 and from pp. 171-6, with a length general section entitled “Your Good Days in 1969” for the 12 signs of the zodiac, spanning pages 86-170

[13] Pseud. jointly used by Mme. Henriette Michaux and Louis-Henri Horicks in their combined work, according to Le Vicomte Charles de Herbais de Thun

[14] A stamp to the ffep gives the publisher’s address as: 10a, Rue de Savoie, Bruxelles

[15] Dated 1997; but this must relate to the first impression

[15a] Copyrighted 2014, but no separate date is given for this apparent eighth version, which was issued through print-on-demand by Lightning Source in 2020

[16] Dated 2001; but it is unclear if this truly relates only to the 1st printing, as seems likely

[17] Dated 1988; but this refers to the first printing of the first combined edition; the actual date of this printing may be closer to my date of purchasing it, which was 1996

[18] The date of reprinting is not given, and while it may be presumed 1916 or soon after, the paper quality is fresh enough for a considerably later date to be plausible

[19] Not in Karlsruhe or Worldcat

[20] The foreword is dated 1978, but the DNB records 1979 for the actual date of publication

[20a] After the original edition of 1982

[20b] DNB gives 1977, which is supported by internal references in the publisher’s foreword

[20c] A credit reads: ‘Sometime Lecturer in the Department of Sanskrit and Allied Languages, Ramnarain Ruia College, Bombay’

[20d] After the (second) edition published in Bangalore City in April 1919

[20e] The present edition is said by Krishnamurti, the son of the late original translator Sastri, to have been ‘thoroughly revised, enlarged and… enriched by the addition of a revised and enlarged chart of the Picture of the Heavens’. Sastri is said to have died in November 1953

[20f] After the original edition of 1903, the second of 1919 and the third of 1937, q. v. above

[21] “M.B.B.S.,  M.D. (Med.), FNCCP, FCCP (USA); Formerly Porfessor and Head, Deptt. of Medicine and Cardiology, RML (Willingdon) Hospital, New Delhi; Formerly Consultant to three Presidents of India” (credits cribbed from title page and foreword)

[22] The copyright and editorial and design credits are separately attributed to Brown Packaging Books Ltd., Bradley’s Close, 74-77 White Lion Street, London N1. Further credited is the Project Editor, Brian Burns

[23] After the first impression of 1988

[24] This copy may however be a later facsimile reprint. The staples, covers and paper are suspiciously fresh-looking

[25] The address has been struck through in black ink and replaced by a stamp reading ‘Solunar Research Publications, P. O.Box 1073 Sta. A, Bay City, Mich. 48706]
