The Key to Your Own Nativity was the sixth volume to appear in Alan Leo’s seven-volume Astrological Text-Books series, which was sometimes collectively billed as the “Astrology for All” Series, although Astrology for All was also the title of the first book in the series.
The Key to Your Own Nativity was designed as an easy-to-use cookbook of natal astrological placement delineations that could be used by anyone with access to their own birth chart and a basic knowledge of how to read the symbols in it to quickly interpret it without the need for a professional astrologer or any other books, and set a precedent for later similar books of potted natal chart placement delineations by other authors appearing in the remainder of the 20th century. It could also be used by those without even the most basic knowledge of how to read their own birth chart in conjunction with a cheap paid birth chart service available at the time of first publication from Alan Leo’s office, in which the relevant paragraphs to read in the book would be listed by number.
Although some of its delineations are relatively brief, and more extensive ones of some of the placements are found in some of his earlier books, The Key to Your Own Nativity was the most complete source-book of natal astrological delineations available from Alan Leo in one volume, and this gave it a unique selling point in the astrological marketplace of its day.
