About this Book Scan

Old Moore’s Monthly Messenger was launched in October 1907 as yet another attempt by the well-established British occult and astrological publishing company Foulsham to launch a successful astrological magazine onto the British marketplace to rival Modern Astrology. Its previous efforts, Coming Events and The Horoscope (downloads of which are also available from Astrolearn – see under Ireton for the latter), had proven short-lived.

With Old Moore’s Monthly Messenger, Foulsham enjoyed greater success. It would remain in monthly publication for 32 years until September 1939, although its name changed after the seventh year of publication to The British Journal of Astrology.

The editor was initially anonymous, but Old Moore had been a pseudonym of Sepharial at the time of the publication of his book Astrology (1905), and given that he contributed regular articles under his own name, he seems likely to have been the first editor.
