Publishers, London | 1942 | £20 | First UK edition, after the original American edition of 1935 | Original red cloth in good+ condition, with light peeling of cloth from lower outer corner of front board, otherwise very good, with sun-fading to spline and a little fraying to extremities of cloth. Front inner paper hinge cracked but webbing strong. Rear inner paper hinge only partly cracked; webbing again strong. Old plain-pencilled price to half-title page. Very slight chipping to lower outer corners of a few pages and lower inner corners of a handful of others, far from text. Heavier loss to lower outer corner of leaf comprising pp. 89-90, not reaching text. An early owner has extended the printed lunar ephemeris at the close of the book in blue handwriting with the equivalent data for 1946 to 1949 inclusive, using the available blank space on the final printed leaf, making this a uniquely updated copy – within the context of the 1940s, at least. Overall, a good+ copy inside and out of this interesting vintage beginner-level guide. |
