Description

hb Lilly, William & Zadkiel An Introduction to Astrology by William Lilly, with numerous Emendations, Adapted to the Improved State of the Science; also a Grammar of Astrology and Tables for Calculating Nativities by Zadkiel Later impression G. Bell and Sons, Ltd., London 1939 £65 The last known high-quality hardback printing of this compendium edition, which had first been published thus by H. G. Bohn in 1852, with later printings issued by George Bell & Sons. Original full red cloth in vgc+ condition for age, with rubbing to bottom edge of spine, slight bumping to lower outer corners, and minor curvature to lie of rear board. Gilt titling to spine remains strong and bright. A few internal cracks to rear inner paper hinge, but underlying webbing looks solid. Someone has tipped in to the rear free end-paper by the adjoining edge of a sheet a vintage blue 1d Royal Mail stamp with the head of King George VI. This corresponds with stamp reference SG 504 and is said to be from 1950 according to my research. The stamp could be detached along the perforations if wanted! Slight creasing towards lower outer corners of earlier internal pages, but a very clean copy internally, with no previous owner markings found, and paper remaining bright and fresh.
