[1] The author’s final book (before her death) of astro-seismological research

[2] An earlier copyright date of 1982 is given, presumed to represent the date by which the text had been composed by the author although it was not published at that time

[3] It is not made expressly clear if this date relates only to the original publication date in the UK or also to this first American printing

[4] The publication history implies this to be the first printing thus (i.e. under the present title) of an evolution of “The Compleat Astrologer” (q. v. above), following the printings of the original edition of the latter of 1971 and 1975 and a revised edition (but under the original name) of 1979, itself reprinted 1980

[4a] A Sun sign primer focused on children but aimed at parents

[5] This edition was expanded with significant new content over the 1991 edition above

[6] A series of publications published by the Neo-Assyrian Text Corpus Project of the Academy of Finland in co-operation with Deutsche Orient-Gesellschaft. Parpola, the editor of the present volume, is also named as Editor-in-Chief of the overall series, in collaboration with a committee including also Robert M. Whiting, Federick Mario Fales, Nicholas Postgate, and Julian Reade.

[7] A brief foreword is written by Robert M. Whiting, who is also said to have revised the English of Parpola’s translations.

[8] See note corresponding to “Assyrian Prophecies” two footnotes above

[9] This work is presented as being a revision and expansion of the letters contained in “Letters from Assyrian Scholars to the Kings Esarhaddon and Assurbanipal Part 1: Texts”, which was first published in 1970 (see below for reprint). It also includes some letters that were published in “… Part 2: Commentary” of the original edition, as well as 30 letters not published in either of the above volumes, while 14 astrological reports and 3 letters in the original editions have been excluded on the grounds that they did not belong under this title. The extensive commentaries in the original Part 2 volume are not reproduced here. It therefore remains a valuable resource.

[10] Most volumes in this series were simultaneously released in both pictorial cloth and card bindings.

[11] A facsimile reprint of the original edition published in 1970 by Verlag Butzon & Bercker (Kevelaer) as Vol. 5/1 in a series called Alter Orient und Altes Testament

[12] A facsimile reprint of the original edition published in 1983 by Verlag Butzon & Bercker (Kevelaer) as Vol. 5/2 in the series Alter Orient und Altes Testament

[13] This volume was unfortunately received thus direct from the publisher when purchased new in the year of publication (2007), a probable victim of inadequate packaging standards. Sadly it has been my experience that both publishers and sellers of new books frequently do not apply nearly such rigorous measures to protect against damage in transit as antiquarian booksellers do on already-old works. Resultantly, many a supposedly new book has been received with wear to the corners and extremities, and occasionally more serious damage (as here) has manifest.

[14] Two identical-looking copies held, but one in much fresher condition than the other and cut slightly taller. The less fresh one is sure to be the original Dorothy Hughes reprint of the 1970s or 1980s; the other one might be a perfectly preserved copy of the same, or possibly a later undeclared careful replication of it, perhaps by the AFA
