[1] This printing appears from contemporaneous press advertisements advertising the publisher’s catalogue to date from around 1929 or soon after. The BL dates its copy to 1931. After the original edition by the same publisher, shown in Indian library records to have been published by Taraporevala in the city then still known as Bombay in 1925. The author’s full real name is given by Julian Franklyn in “A survey of the occult” (1935) as Rangil Lakshmidasa Sutaria

[1a] An undeclared monochrome facsimile reprint, circa 1998-2005, by SPICA Publications, Australia, of the Taraporevala ‘New Impression’ shown above

[2] BL gives 1930

[2a] A broad-based occult / self-help book, not especially concerned with astrology, but acquired as part of a lot of predominantly astrologically themed pocket-books

[3] Complete in 30 lessons (plus preceding ‘Introduction’)

[4] Presumed reprinted around 1969 in common with the reissued Introduction as listed above; the original text is copyrighted 1937 by Svehla in Cleveland, Ohio

[5] Hans Niggemann is the most likely bet in view of his leading the preface and inserting his own advertising at the end. He also reprinted the correspondence lessons of Svehla, q. v. above

[6] The copyright date is given as 1939; but this printing is clearly much later, and the signature of 1969 in Hans Niggemann’s advertising at the rear seems a close guide

[6a] The main content of this volume consists of a transcript of a letter sent out by the author to the Secretaries of each state in the United States requesting information on the legal status of astrology in that state, followed by transcripts of all replies received, most of them brief. The author indicates that he was requested to compile the volume following the inaugural congress of the National Astrological Association held in Hollywood, California from July 21-3, 1927, at which he would appear to have been present

[7] Professor at the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics, University of Chicago

[8] A series of publications edited by Jed Buckwald and produced by the Dibner Institute for the History of Science and Technology

[9] A compendium of twelve essays by different scholars, including Erica Reiner, Francesca Rochberg, Hermann Hunger, Gerd Graßhoff, Asger Aaboe, Alexander Jones, and the present editor, who further contributes the introduction

[10] Copyrighted 1998; but the printing date for this impression is not given

[11] A series of publications edited by G. J. Toomer, together with an advisory board of six

[12] Library records show 1812

[13] Pseud. of Édouard Conneau

[14] Copyrighted 1987, but this is presumed to relate to the 1st impression

[14a] A German translation of ‘The Marriage of Heaven and Earth’ (1985), q. v.

[15] A pseudonym for Tom, Karen

[16] A German diplomat and psychotherapist

[17] On small squares of paper. The note about Grimm, an eminent German astrologer of the early 20th century (q. v.), disagrees with the printed date of birth by one day, and gives his precise date and time of death, not shown in the printed volume. I have not been able to establish the identity of the other individual because the name is hard to read

[18] Presumably about Kurt von Schleicher, Chancellor of Cgermany from 3 December 1932 to 28 January 1933. The cutting is somewhat torn at the margins, and constitutes p. 11 of an unidentified source. I was able to date it precisely because it is backed with an astrological ephemeris for a month of May whose planetary positions show it to be May 1933

[19] A German actress, 1909-1955
