About this Book Scan

Carefully reproduced in full colour from our original printing of the 1680 first edition.

The Reverend John Butler’s Hagiastrologia, or Astrology, a Sacred Science, was an influential late 17th century discourse in favour of astrology by a that remained widely cited by astrologers throughout the 19th century.

The identity of the author is not entirely clear, as John Butler was a common name. In 1675, there appeared a work credited to John Butler, rector Lichborrow Peterburgh, entitled God made Man… Verified by the Rules of Practi-cal Astrologie. It is possible though not certain that this is the same author. We do not believe he was John Butler DD, Canon of Windsor from 1669 to 1682, since the author of Hagiastrologia is referenced only as BD (Bachelor of Divinity).
