Fowler & Co. 1917 £32.50 317pp including advertisements from pp. 305-317. Original full vertically ribbed green cloth in vgc+ condition for its age, with light rubbing to upper outer corners of boards; only minimal rubbing to extremities of spine and lower outer corners. Gilt titling to front board still strong; to spine, relatively faded but titles still clear to read. Internally, hinges almost entirely intact, with just a 1 cm tear to paper at bottom of front inner paper hinge, and a very slight 3 cm one a little further up. Trace of liquid staining to bottom 1-2 cm of inner half of front paste-down, with mild and diminishing effects upon following preliminaries, far from text, dying out before Contents page. Slight crease down inner margin of title page. 2-inch tear to upper outer corner of leaf comprising pp. 143-4, not reaching text (corner could be neatly clipped off if wanted to prevent further damage). No other faults found. Plain-pencilled marginal bracket to p. 305 (first page of advertisements). No other markings found. Binding remains strong. Overall, a very good copy of this very early edition.
