Both editions before 1923 are very rare. Collates complete: [20] + 215 + 44 + [1] + 32 + [2] + 23 + [2] + 45 pp + [3 pages of advertisements] Original compact blue cloth binding in good overall condition, structurally sound although cosmetically aged by staining and fading to the title legends; with moderate rubbing to extremities of spine and most outer corners of boards. Small black ink stain to closed outer edge of page block upon final few leaves only, slightly seeping into outer margins. Outbreaks of paper browning (resembling foxing) to extreme upper margins of most internal pages, far from text. Early owner’s ornate black-inked signature to ffep. Occasional plain-pencilled scribbles that should be erasable with care: spotted to title page and parts of blank opposite it, to dedication page, and to pp. 89, 136 and 137 of Part 1. A few characters of print towards lower outer corner of third unnumbered page of introduction have faded, not affecting the decipherability of the words as a whole. Very occasional marginal thumbing with thumbs that seem to have been slightly stained with black ink. Very occasional corrected dog-ears to outer corners. On p. 42, a former owner, or possibly the publisher, has corrected the depiction of the quintile from ‘adverse’ to ‘good’ in neat black ink. From pp. 105-112, they have also corrected some of the erratic pagination in the upper margins, usually but not always in plain pencil. On the first final page of advertisements, the subscription price to the Astrological Bulletina has been updated in the same hand.
