Binding format and presentation notes:

• All issues are held as original separate issues (staplebound pamphlets) including covers, which frequently integrate some content as well as credits.
• Nos. 1-30 are near-A4 (slightly shorter but as wide) staplebound pamphlets with paper covers integrating content. Printing is typically in densely-packed dual-columned text; occasionally in triple columns.
• Print colour to both sides of the covers changes almost every issue; and for the first eleven issues, that same ink colour is also used throughout the internal pages, but from Issue 12 the internal pages are printed in black.
• Paper-colour changes frequently in the first eight issues before settling on cream from No. 9.
• From Issue 9 onwards, a thicker paper is used for the covers; in the first eight issues it is of the same thin quality as the contents.
• Advertisements are increasingly integrated onto the final two pages from the second issue onwards, but not always exclusively.
• From No. 31, the size format is drastically reduced to approx. A5. It increases very slightly from No. 33 but is still only slightly larger than A5 thereafter and still not much more than half the size of the first 30 issues. This new size format is subsequently retained for the duration of the publication.
• From issue 37 to issue 43, only thin war-rationed paper is used for both covers and internal contents, and both covers and contents are printed in black ink.
• No. 44 is bound in thick card covers. Nos. 45-8 are also in card covers.
• From No. 49 onwards, thin paper covers are again used.
• Only on the very last issues, 79-83, is a thicker paper used again (but not card).
• The covers of Issue 44 are printed in red, but from Issue 45 to Issue 50, again only black ink is used throughout. Although this was originally presumably another consequence of war-time rationing, it seems to have been prolonged for some time after the war ended with the exception of Issue 45.
• The old theme of using variably coloured inks on successive covers returns regularly from No. 51 (with some exceptions, e.g. Nos. 52 and 54 in black).

 

[1] On the Juillet – Août 1953 issue, Néroman continues to be credited as the ‘Directeur-Fondateur’, but this is out of date because he is announced in the issue as having died in late June. The caretaker editor for this issue is not specified; and in all later standalone issues, the sole credit is given to Néroman as the Fondateur; the editorship is therefore effectively anonymous.
