hb Lewi, Grant Astrology for the Millions 2nd Garden City Publishing Co., Inc., Garden City, New York 1942 £50 After the first edition of 1940, which is exceedingly rare ASSOCIATION COPY. Original deep red cloth in vgc- condition, with moderate fraying to bottom cm of rear spine hinge and top cm of front spine hinge; a hint of light fraying to top 5mm of front spine hinge; 8mm tear to cloth over outer edge of rear board, traces of white staining towards foot of outer edge of rear board, and moderate sun-fading to spine; otherwise just light rubbing to extremities. Red-on-black zodiacal illustration across spine and inner margin of front board remains very clear and gives this copy a strong vintage charm. Binding remains solid. Endpapers toned. A printed vintage poem by Elmer Nicholas, ‘I Am A Friend Visiting You’, is adhered to the front paste-down of this copy. Elmer Nicholas was editor of Palms magazine, dedicated to poetry, between c. 1936 and 1940, according to credible online bibliographies of the magazine. Small plain-pencilled number to lower inner margin of ffep. Chart blank to p. 37 has been filled in with plain pencil. Plain-pencilled correction of misprinted digit to p. 230, and to misprinted page reference to p. 236. Accidental plain-pencilled marginal mark to p. 234. Plain-pencilled marginal short lines to pp. 283 and 294. Similar possible elsewhere, but no permanent markings found. Six of the eight chart table blanks that follow p. 304 have been partly filled in with plain pencil. Overall, a very good copy of this sought-after early edition published well within the author’s lifetime.
