hb Vedra, Yarmo Heliocentric Astrology or Essentials of Astronomy and Solar Mentality, with Tables of Ephemeris to 1910 1st David McKay, Publisher, 610 South Washington Square, Philadelphia n.d. £85 Copyrighted 1899; no impression data is provided, making it impossible to be sure whether this is the original impression of 1899 or a slightly later reprint, but all copies of the first edition I have seen are alike in this respect. A later impression extended the ephemerides to 1921, but this one predates that change. Original deep blue cloth with black border design and silver illustration to front board, together with silver titling to both front board and spine. Top edge gilt. Binding in vgc for age, with moderate rubbing to extremities of spine and outer corners of front board; a little more wear to cloth over outer corners of rear board; a few patches of scuffing to rear board as pictured; light rubbing along parts of edges of boards and parts of spine hinges. The gilt illustration and titling to the front board remains pleasingly bright and strong. Front inner paper hinge weak, with some underlying cords broken, so that the whole hinge may eventually split, but it could be strengthened with archival hinge tape. Rear inner paper hinge partly split, but underlying webbing intact. Front paste-down with vintage green and red arrow-shaped American bookshop address label to lower margin. Ffep with old black-inked owner’s signature, dated 1920, and separate reddish address stamp of another early owner, which also occurs on the lower margin of the final page of advertisements. The second owner’s address stamp is repeated to the outer margin of the copyright page, but in black ink. Occasional light plain-pencilled underlinings and marginal marks to text pages, but no permanent marks found to any printed page other than the aforementioned address stamps. Overall, a vgc- copy, the minus solely on account of the weakness to the front inner paper hinge, which is reparable
